Metal_Massacre_79 Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 Might be wrong, but I felt this was the best palce to post this. The idea was sparked by a suggestion in the Feedback forum. I have a way of locating the users of Macross World using latitude and longitude via a map drawing I have in AutoCAD. This was suggested so that we know what part of the world the members are posting from (not by address but geographical locations). If you want to be included on this map, please list the latitude and longitude of the city/state/country you live in. As soon as I have a completed model (or nearly complete, or when this loses interest) I will send a picture to Shawn for display. I'll try to post a sample of this in a little bit. Thanks! Bill Quote

Mechamaniac Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 How detailed can the map be? Can you inlcude member's names etc? If not, then it would be a pretty easy matter to image map the picture, and then it could be hyperlinked directly to the profiles of the participating members. In areas of high concentration, like Cali, can you provide state sized maps? We're already going to start off with one big ass red blotch in the California area, so it would be nice if there were state boundaries on the map, and if separate images for each state were available. That way, once a state reached the point where it had a high concentration of members, you could click on the state, and it would open a larger image showing the individual dots. BTW - here are my coordinates... Latitude: N 39 1 54 Longitude: W 76 30 10 And I can do the image mapping if that's the way we decide to go. I had been talking to Shawn about this over PM some months ago, but as was mentioned in the other thread, the project sort of fell by the wayside. Quote
Metal_Massacre_79 Posted April 17, 2004 Author Posted April 17, 2004 (edited) I'll wait to see which areas have the most people. I can then do a large scale version of the states/cities with the most people in them. I doubt that people would share their addresses but I could create a list that says who is in what city. Edit: I was also looking at doing this another way. I was going to color in the states/countries based on a range of people (i.e. blue = 1-100, green = 101-200, etc.), then making state/country maps that show all the dots. Lat Long Post your locations in Degree-Minutes-Seconds format (i.e. N42-42-29, W87-50-50). Let me know if you have problems figuring out your location. Metal_Massacre_79 Posted April 20, 2004 Author Posted April 20, 2004 Just an update for you people, I can only put one dot per location, so rather than you finding the lat long of your particular city, I would rather you find one close to your home address by using the link I give above. If you are already doing that, great. If not, please start as it would help make the map more understandable. Thanks! Bill Quote

Metal_Massacre_79 Posted April 21, 2004 Author Posted April 21, 2004 Thanks to those of you who have responded thus far. I would like to make a request for those of you who may post after this: Please carry out your decimals to 8 digits. Here's an example, N 42.70818592 / W 87.84758450. Also, if you use the link on the first page, you will get a more accurate location than you would by just using your city. PM me if you need to change a location already given. Thanks for your cooperation. Also, I'm not going to update the maps as much as I have been. I'll post new maps every 20 members. Don't forget to promote this to the other board members! Thanks Again!
