ChaoticYeti Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) Hey guys, I was lucky enough to grab a Yamato launch stand when they first came out. As I have bolstered my collection, I am in need of some stands. I figured I might as well make my own. I came up with a quick idea for a stand to hold a valk in fighter mode. I will probably continue to develop this, and may end up with a configurable stand by the time I am bored of this. First step was making sure I could model and print an adapter that would hold the Yamarcadia stand adapters. It fits amazingly well. I have already modeled a stand. It is printing now. I will post pics upon its completion. So far so good. I will edit this post with more pics when available. The base is still printing. I did shrink the footprint down a tad. I have modified the arm to accommodate gunpods in fighter mode. The universal nature of a stand like this is in question until I try all of my valks on it. Pretty quick and easy to iterate, though. Here is the base printed. 1/60 VF-1 for scale. It holds weight pretty well. I will take more pics when the revised arm prints. I already have an idea for a fully adjustable printed arm. Pic spam ahead: As neat as the overhang is, I will probably move the fulcrum back an inch or so. It is in no danger of tipping, but I think multiples would fit better on a shelf if the valks are more centered above the base. After I nail this down to my liking, and print a few, I will start working on the adjustable arm. Revised arm in red: As it stands, my nicknames for these are; Fighter Arm (Clear), Gerwalk Arm (Red), and Battroid Arm (Blue). I am not yet sure if these work for each valk in this way. More printing ahead. I printed out another base, and a Battroid arm: Edited April 2, 2014 by ChaoticYeti Quote

ChaoticYeti Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) that's so awesome. I think I'll need a few. Thanks! I will continue to add pics and progress. Edit: Edited April 5, 2014 by ChaoticYeti Quote
Jasonc Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 If these end up working well enough, I will get a few as well. BTW, that material are they printed in? Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 I am currently printing these in PLA. Quote
Chronocidal Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Now, that is an awesome stand. In for.. 20. Or so. Quote
Falcon18 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 That looks good. Any plans to make differing arm lengths? Good luck on your project! Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 This first design is just a proof of concept. I will likely have different lengths/orientations for the arms, or I will work out a printable jointed arm. Quote
DarkArchon3000 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Very elegant design! I'm interested in getting a few if you make them available. Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Thanks for the interest, guys. I updated with new pics. Quote
Jefuemon Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 How would a 1/72 scale kit look on one of these? I have zero toys, but plenty of Macross model kits that could use a cool stand. Quote
barurutor Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 These are really nice stands! Awesome work, I hope they're affordable Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 I updated with pics. I am going to print another base (so three total now) with the Gerwalk arm. I will post back later today. Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Very interested to see how this plays out! Me too! My wife has connections with manufacturers in Taiwan, and locally in the US through her work. I just wanted some stands for my valks, but if there is enough interest, this could be a neat little adventure. Quote
Jasonc Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I'm not one to make suggestions, especially on someone's project, and you probably know better, but have you tried maybe recessing the part where the arm connects with the base, to integrate the into a more distinct kite symbol? Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 I'm not one to make suggestions, especially on someone's project, and you probably know better, but have you tried maybe recessing the part where the arm connects with the base, to integrate the into a more distinct kite symbol? I did think about that. I want it to be as sturdy as possible while looking as "light" as possible. I want the longer 90 degree straight peg the way it is for stability. I don't want an intricate keyhole, and I want the 2 curved arms as thin as possible. Erring slightly on the side of rock solid is more important to me, while still incorporating the kite. I am also thinking that the face of the stand could be used for whatever graphics you wanted to print out for each individual stand. The print out could be sandwiched with a clear cover matching the radius of the inner bezel. You could go plain kite, or have your own image (artwork, still, pilot, etc). Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) Updated with pics of the Gerwalk Arm (fulcrum closer to center of base). Edited April 1, 2014 by ChaoticYeti Quote
Chronocidal Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Those are looking beautiful, what type of printer are you using to make them? Also, if the weight of the base ever becomes an issue, you could probably mold the base hollow on the underside, to let people attach metal weights to it. Quote

Also, if the weight of the base ever becomes an issue, you could probably mold the base hollow on the underside, to let people attach metal weights to it. I am using my Makergear M2 to print these out. I have weighted prints down with steel on some other projects, so that would always be an option. So far the weight, surface area, and fulcrum all seem to be working great on different valks. I do not think it is feasible to print these out for people that want them. Maybe a select few if it gets to that. I doubt you guys want to drop $200 a pop for a stand. It would have to go to a more traditional form of manufacturing. Quote
Sildani Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Well, whatever may be, I'd like one or two of these. Quote
flopers88 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Excellent Job!!!!!....SUpreme!!!!... I want four of them.... Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Moderator: It looks like I am limited to the amount of pics I can have in this post. Is it possible to lift that? How do you want me to update? Quote
mog_kupo Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Looking forward to this AWESOME JOB!! Keep it up Quote
daBlah! Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 That is a beauty of a stand! Excellent work indeed Quote

Saburo Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 These stands are great!! Would you also considered making an S.M.S version also? Quote
ChaoticYeti Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 (edited) These stands are great!! Would you also considered making an S.M.S version also? I didn't have a plan too, but it would be easy enough. Edit: Edited April 10, 2014 by ChaoticYeti Quote
Saburo Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I didn't have a plan too, but it would be easy enough. I didn't think about at first and realized the stands are designed for Yamato/Arcadia Valks. I think the stands are awesome, would you consider a version for Bandai DX Chogokin Valks too? Thank you. Quote
Dobber Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Wow! These stands look awesome! I would also like to get a few! Chris Quote
