VF5SS Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 [I'm starting a new thread for this for clarity. Right now we are working on the elbow and shoulder. Designed by a fellow CDX reviewer, Anavel (Gatooooooooo~) It will be sold through the Veef Shop http://www.shapeways.com/shops/veefshop It is not ready yet, however the first results are promising. Chronocidal Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 If you haven't thought of it already, I know some people have had similar problems with the knee joint pieces, since they were made of the same plastic. I think Graham mentioned his VF-0's leg shearing off at the knee. I don't know if those parts would be as easy to reproduce though. They're still not a ton of plastic, but they're quite a bit bigger than the shoulders. Quote
Axure Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Ditto on the knee joint idea . They are fragile when a small earthquake is combined with a 5 foot fall... Quote
Graham Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Ditto on the knee joint idea . They are fragile when a small earthquake is combined with a 5 foot fall... Heck, they are fragile just picking up the toy! Graham Quote
Mommar Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I guess I should check the knees on mine? It's been standing in Battroid for a little over a year now. Quote
GMANIFESS Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Yeah, my 0A had a broken shoulder right out the box... Quote
ultraman zoffy Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Been wanting a VF-0S for a while now, but with all the joint issues and seeing how floppy the toy is in the scorched earth interview, I just can't bring myself to purchase one. We might as well ask Veef to just design a whole new reissue of it for everyone. lol Quote
VF5SS Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 Meh. Scorthed Earth reviews aren't that helpful. Loose joints on the VF-0 are easy to fix. Quote
ultraman zoffy Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Meh. Scorthed Earth reviews aren't that helpful. Loose joints on the VF-0 are easy to fix. I think I was actually more concerned about the loose "spine" on the toy that allows the cockpit area to flop around and causes the air intakes to not lock into place properly. That and the janky sounding feet; not stoked on buying one and finding out I didn't get one that has locking feet... I'm sure there's a fix for most of the issues with the toy, but since I've still got a few VF-1's to collect, I figure that'll give me time to wait for your replacement parts to get dialed before I throw down on a VF-0. Keep up the good work man! Quote
eriku Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 (edited) Damn you...this makes me want to buy another VF-0. I've already bought/sold two of them! :3 Edited March 6, 2012 by eriku Quote

Keep up the good work man! A lot of that is just little tolerance issues that can be fixed with a little glue, nail polish, paint, or whatever you like to thicken things. I'm not saying the toy is perfect but there are ways to do a little maintenance if you wish to keep the figure for a long time. Quote
Razerwire Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Will definitely be buying these for my 0A and 0S. Quote
Sturmvogel Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Thanks for doing this, my VF-0A is one of my favorites and I've kept it even with a broken arm. My VF-0A's left shoulder/bicep is broken. Will these parts be for both the right and left arms? Quote
VF5SS Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 We're doing both the left and right shoulders and also the elbows. You guys can let me know if you want everything listen individually (like one right shoulder replacement is its own entity) or bundled (like right shoulder and right elbow in one order). Shapeways's flat rate shipping makes it so having multiple models on order no a big issue. Quote
Sturmvogel Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 A bundled left shoulder and elbow would be perfect for me, but I would buy them separate as well. Thanks! Quote
VF5SS Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 Because the parts aren't universal like the VF-1 shoulder hinge, any bundles will be separated into left and right. Quote
Ignacio Ocamica Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I'd say bundles. If the shoulder cracked, the elbow will inevitably follow the same path. Quote
Razerwire Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 (edited) Do they come in one color? I'm not positive but I think the 0S and 0A had different shades. Either way, I'd take two sets of everything. Maybe three for insurance. Edited March 6, 2012 by Razerwire Quote
VF5SS Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 They are normally cast in white and can be dyed in several colors by shapeways. You can also use your own plastic dyes or acrylic paints to color them yourself. As noted, Shapeways's gray dye gives them a slightly purple gray color. Quote
Razerwire Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Awesome. Is the surface of the part rough or smooth? From my experience with Shapeways parts the surfaces have been rough as opposed to a glossy smooth finish. Either way I'll be buying these sets once the final adjustments are made. Thanks! Quote
bravo5 Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 I will definately be in for 3 sets (2 for repair 1 for spare) Quote
VF5SS Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 You guys can relax. Shapeways is 3d printing made to order :3 Quote

Keep up the good work man! There is a pretty easy fix for the spine issue, has to do with bending the metal plate in the nose into the correct shape. I don't know where it went, but I definitely wrote a short tutorial on how to do it. It's probably part of one of the VF-0 reissue threads that popped up in this forum. Quote
UN Spacy Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 IN for a set just in case the replacements that HLJ made me pay for crap out. Quote

Chronocidal Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 (edited) Could be there too, I think it was probably cross-linked. I just don't remember which thread it came from originally. Correction, I found it. It was linked to the "What's Wrong..." topic (which is now in the hall of super topics somehow, so we might want to make a version II), but the fix originally showed up in the VF-0 reissue thread. VF5SS Posted April 6, 2012 Author Posted April 6, 2012 They're still being tweaked but I did get a chance to handle them and they were very solid. Quote
Anavel Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Sorry guys, will get the updated parts on order this weekend and hopefully have an update in a couple weeks. If all goes well and no more tweaks are required they will be ready to order. Quote
Anavel Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 New parts are on order, due to ship in 10 days. They should work now with no fit issues. Will update when I receive them. For some reason Shapeways no longer offers grey in their Strong and Flexible material. I have ordered black and will see how it looks in person. Otherwise it will have to be painted. I have contacted Shapeways to inquire about the possibility of returning Grey as a color choice. Quote
Macette Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Me too, i got my 0S and 0A so long ago, the arms just kinda flop around, i would love to give them functional arms again. Quote
t040484 Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 An update tomorrow. 5/9 Order Start. Thanks! Gatoooooo!!! Quote
