Hey folks, I've been keeping a lid on this for a while, although some people may already be in the know. I am currently producing a series of three short CGI films that take place in the Macross universe, titled Macross Aria. Set shortly after Space War One, the series will explore loss and transformation, set against the back drop of -- what else? -- space battles and song.

Many fan productions come and go, and I know I'm not the first to shout about an animated short here. Where this particular project differs from perhaps others is that I'm taking a page out of game modding book, and enlisting plenty of like-minded fans to help bring this project to life. In fact, to be quite honest, without the support of the Macross fan community, this project would not be plausible.

I am announcing the project here now to open the doors, and invite community members to help take part in what I think will be a very valuable and rewarding experience.

I'm excited about the talented team that has already been assembled, but we're going to need more hands and creativity to bring this thing to fruition. Right now we're looking for:

2d artists

character designers

storyboard artists

concept artists

3d modelers and/or completed models

texture artists

composer/song writer

additional voice talent (PM Hikuro for more details)

The project has moved past its development phase, and is currently in preproduction. Given the nature of a non-centralized, fan-contributed project, production and preproduction can and will occur concurrently.

For more information, I have set up a production blog located at http://macrossaria.ning.com.

The public website is: http://www.macrossaria.com

If you'd like to contribute in any way, please hit me back either with a PM or by responding to this topic.

In the mean time, the first public element of Aria will be Mercury's Word, the on-board publication of the ARMD Pegasus. It will features articles and media and will be a good place to explore the world beyond the three episodes planned for Aria. Check it out, it's in beta-beta rough cut form right now!

From what I've read from Chilly and what I've seen him mess around in, the movie has a high potential of being epic.

The best way I can describe it, Celshade animation, kind of like that from BattleCry only much more rich in detail and design (no missing wings in a certain form ahem) with a hint of a Battlestar Galatica atmosphere which is great.

Even though I'm not really apart of the animation or anything, Chilly's been gracious enough to listen to my ideas when ever he shows off a bit of the storyboards going "Hm okay yeah we can do that." or "Yeah but lets try this instead might be better."

Lets just say, you've seen that Robotech Genesis stuff lingering around............we'll kick their ass I think. I believe we've got a large scale project that's enough.

So, when are the auditions for voice acting? :D

Although it has been a while... a long while... since the last time I've done anything in 3dsMax, I'd be up to do some secondary starship modelling, low poly LOD modelling, and maybe some architectural work. There is no love for those beautiful ARMDs, almost mothballed Oberths, Lancer Fighters, or Ghosts that appear in the background for two seconds or three before blowing up and I wanna tackle that. If you're interested, send me a PM telling me more or less what do you want and gimme a day or two to cook up something to show off my abilities and see if I'm up to the task.

I'd definitely like to help with this. I can do voice acting, and help with music writing as well. I have experience in both. Anyways, it's awesome to finally see a Macross work coming out.

The characters, are going to be hand draw, or you will be using CG , like Final Fantasy or Apple Seed?

CG, with a look closer to the first Appleseed CGI than to Ex Machina.

With any luck, we will have some models to show off before too long. You can see my earlier pilot model on youtube:

Since that model was built, I've learned a lot.

The staple gun is jammed, and I can't afford to fix it. So I pretty much have got a ripped open aluminum can to do my cutting and slashing with upon those deserving.

Another OT question, anybody have the video that was circulating a few years ago of a CGI battle featuring the VF-1, VF-11 and I think the YF-19 against Zents?? Let me know where to get it if you do!

here you go

To find it you need to write "Robotech 3D" in search, but something telling that you will never do you it)))

Also, check this smbd's video. Really cool

What kind of voice-types are you looking for? I've done some voice acting myself and everyone I know says I'm pretty good at them. ^_^

Hikuro has a call out for auditions on this website: voiceactingalliance.com/board/showthread.php?t=37956

There's a description of the available roles there, and instructions for submitting auditions.

I'm psyched about all the interest in the project. Word.

Hrmm.. I really want to audition but I need to find a decent mic. Hopefully I can find one and send something in by the 30th.

REJOICE! A cast has been decided, for the most part at least.

I haven't chosen a Jackson for the project as no one seems to fit what I'm looking for. Chilly's been pretty good at supporting my decisions on who's who so I can say the cast will be grand.

Shite mate, Jackson sounds like he's right up my alley! Why you no bap me upside the head?

Gimme 'till this week end, unless you already have your sights on someone.

Chilly's got someone he recommended me too who could probably pull it off, so I'm waiting to see what this guy has got...so the role is still open and if the guys got the stuff to me I'm good on that...if not I'll keep looking and everyone will know in the next day or so.

Not to detract from the excitement surrounding casting announcements, but we're still looking for modelers. Particularly people willing to tackle some Zentradi designs.

Things are about to hit high gear.

Indeed! I can't take much more of him telling me how bad he needs model help XD HELP HELP HELP!

I'll still record my audition tonight along with other auditions. Worse comes to worse, you can delete my stuff if it doesn't work :)

I mostly model Transformers, but I'm game. Here's a sample of stuff that isn't Transformers related. As long as there isn't a rush situation, since my personal time is stretched thin as it is, but then again, considering how many people turned me down on my 3D fan project, I feel obligated to contribute where I can.

I work exclusively on 3DStudio Max. I've no time to learn another tool of the trade. As long as it's props, ships, vehicles, planets, and backgrounds, I can probably help.

These are in order of age. The first is my earliest work, and the last is my most recent.

FYI:

3ds Max is the tool we'll be using to compile and animate everything. As far as I'm concerned, people can model for us in whatever software they feel most comfortable with, so long as there's a reasonable path from SOFTWARE > 3DS MAX.

WOW!!! that "The Latest in Outta Space is..." vid was AWESOME!!!

Thanks! That's just a little music video pet project that's slowly developing. I'm now using it as practice for Macross Aria. Getting two birds stoned at once.
