サウスパーク

For nearly a decade, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have proven that a little construction paper can go a long way. South Park tells the everyday misadventures of four 8-year-old boys living in a small redneck town in Colorado. Since its debut on Comedy Central in 1997 (and the bootleg episode "The Spirit of Christmas" before that), the series has earned Parker and Stone millions from video sales, soundtrack CDs, collectible merchandise and the 1999 box-office sleeper hit South Park (Bigger Longer & Uncut).

And is the show coming to an end? Not at all. Season 9 is already on air on Comedy Central, while your local TV station is playing reruns of past episodes. With that in mind, let's talk about South Park.

First off, what was your most memorable South Park episode?

While there have been some real crappy episodes (the one where the kids had a school TV news show was just awful), there have been far more good ones. One of my favorites is where Cartman's hand becomes the new Jennifer Lopez and he wakes up to find Ben Asslick naked in his bed. That had classic lines like, "Oooh, Ben Affleck spooge!" and "Taco-flavored kisses for my Ben!" And I always seem to find myself watching "Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" when it comes on Comedy Central's Secret Stash.

Terrance: Philip, you're a dirty pig-f**ker!

Philip: Now Terrance, why would you say that?!

Terrance: Well, because you f**k pigs!

Philip: (after a short pause) Oh yeah!

Both: Hahahahahahahaha!

Ah... mindless toilet humor is great!

I used to love the show, but in hindsight it was the shock value that I loved. The new episodes are good enough in their own light but now that the shock value has worn off the show is not much more than a soapbox that Parker and Stone can yell at the country from. It's sad to say but I usually agree with every single thing they bring up on that show... the issues and topics they cover, and the way they so blatantly abuse both sides of them just make you laugh. South Park's biggest strength these days is it's ability to be topical right away.

My favorite episode to this day is still "Cartman gets an Anal Probe", AKA the first episode. I have never laughed so hard at South Park until the movie came out.

"NO KITTY THIS IS MY POT PIE!"

I think one massive down side of South Park is that you just can't re-watch it and have that same laugh... it's never as funny the second time through... which speaks to the shock factor again.

Did you watch the episode where the kids tried to prevent Steven Spielberg from altering Raiders of the Lost Ark into a Special Edition? Before the commercial break, Trey and Matt plugged in a "Special Edition" release of the show's first episode.

"For instance, in the scene at the bus stop, we always meant to have Imperial Walkers and giant Dewback lizards in the background, but simply couldn't afford it." - Trey Parker

Here are some memorable episodes (in order of season)

Season 1

101: "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe" - For the hardcore South Park fan, "The Spirit of Christmas" started it all. But for everyone else, this episode introduced the world to this beloved show.

102: "Weight Gain 4000" - "Beefcake! BEEFCAKE!!!"

103: "Volcano" - Remember, kids: in the event of a volcano, Duck and Cover.

104: "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride" - 1998 Emmy Nominee. George Clooney guest stars as Stan's dog Sparky, who seeks refuge at Big Gay Al's Animal Sanctuary after being oppressed as a gay dog.

105: "An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig" - What? You never heard that song by Loverboy? "Pig and elephant DNA just don't splice!"

107: "Pinkeye" - The first Halloween episode. Stupid, but hilarious.

109: "Starvin' Marvin" - The kids donate $5 to an Ethiopian relief fund so they can get a free sports watch. Instead, they get an Ethiopian kid. Meanwhile, Dr. Mephesto's turkey experiment goes wrong, and flocks of turkeys threaten the town.

112: "Mecha-Streisand" - Barbra Streisand unleashes her rage towards South Park. The kids must seek help from Robert Smith (himself), Leonard Maltin and Sidney Poitier to stop the mechanical beast.

113: "Cartman's Mom is a Dirty slurm" - Cartman goes to Mephesto to find out who impregnated his mom at the Drunken Barn Dance. The problem is that there wasn't anyone who didn't make out with her on that night. Guest starring Jay Leno as Kitty.

Season 2

201: "Terrance & Phillip in Not Without My Anus" - The episode itself isn't memorable; just the impact it made as the opener for Season 2, as viewers were anticipating the answer to who Cartman's father was.

202: "Cartman's Mom is Still a Dirty slurm" - Mephesto gets shot, Cartman sings "Come Sail Away" on fast-forward, and the townsfolk eat Eric Roberts for dinner.

Not believing their essay, Mr. Garrison gives them an F-, so the kids attempt to get back at Jimbo and Ned by sending them fake videos of a deadly frog for their public access show Hunting & Killing. Meanwhile, Jesus & Pals undergoes a makeover to compete with Jimbo and Ned's show.

207: "City on the Edge of Forever" - On their way back home from a field trip, all the kids' lives are on the line when the school bus goes off course and hangs on the edge of a cliff. While Miss Crabtree goes out to get help, the kids recall their past adventures - only mixed with ice cream and sticky situations.

210: "Chickenpox" - When the parents learn that getting chicken pox at a young age is better than getting it later, they have Kyle, Stan and Cartman sleep over at Kenny's place. 212: "Clubhouses" - The kids play truth or dare with the girls, while Stan tries to cope with his parents' divorce.

A7, you totally missed a ton of the awesome episodes! Like, the episode where Mr. Garrison invents the "It," the sex ed episode, Towlie, the Passion of the Jew, the crab people, the PSP episode...

Well, I guess it'd be hard to list all the good ones...

I think one massive down side of South Park is that you just can't re-watch it and have that same laugh... it's never as funny the second time through... which speaks to the shock factor again.

I completely disagree. South Park and Family Guy are the only two shows I've actually bothered to collect on DVD. For me, it's never really been about the shock value, but more about the way they take issues, and totally rip them apart, while throwing in some really off the wall stuff (like having Dio perform "Holy Diver" at the school dance). If there's a funnier way to tell the nation, "You take everything WAY too seriously," I don't know what it'd be.

One of my favorites is where Cartman's hand becomes the new Jennifer Lopez and he wakes up to find Ben Asslick naked in his bed.

Cartman: "MOM! Ben Affleck's naked in my bed!"

Cartman's Mom: "Ooh. The tooth fairy must be really generous today."

Totally agree. The thing I like is that if you take the shock value it still has things to say (well, at least in most episodes).

And the one where Garrison creates the new super gasless vehicle but it probes your ass and you have to suck on the dildo steering wheel to power it.

"Hey, it... still beats what you go through at the airports."

Looking at the polls, it seems that Cartman is the driving force of the show, having beat the other kids by a landslide. And now for the next question:

In the end of Season 5, Kenny was killed off "for good," so the kids had different replacement fourth members until the end of Season 6. Who was your favorite substitute "Kenny?"

Which was the "Anime Style" episode? Not Chinpokemon but the one where they buy magical weapons and then they get reanimated in anime stylized versions with a cool Japanese theme song?

Another one is Southpark Is Gay where everybody becomes a metrosexual.

Some of my favorite eps were:

1) the episode where Cartman is acting like a police officer riding his big wheel ala the Cops Tv show.

2) They boys have to write a group book report and Cartman keeps trying to enact a flashback to the past

3) The Simpsons did it episode

4) The episode where Timmy Catches Jimmy taking steroids to win the special olympics, with cameos from Mark McGwire, Jason Giambi and Barry Bonds

My favorite one has to be the two-parter where Cartman starts his own church. My girlfriend's favorite is the one where Cartman starts a Christian rock band.

"Scott Tenorman Must Die"

"The Death of Eric Cartman"

I voted for Kenny just because he dies so much.

Butters, hands down. He plays perfectly off Cartman. For references, check out the episode where they put balls on Butters' chin, the episode where they hit him in the eye with a ninja star, the episode where Cartman pretends to be Awesom-O, the episode where they try to get him fat so he can lose weight and claim it was from eating at City Wok, the episode where he falls in love with a Raisins girl, or the episode where Cartman puts Butters in a bomb shelter so that he can take his place on the trip to Casa Bonita.

Kyle place off Cartman pretty well too. Like the bit in a recent episode about Jew Gold.

I remember the episode with the underwear stealing gnomes. I almost wet myself every time they started to sing  .

There was also the one with the pot smoking talking towel :D:lol: .

My favorite episodes have to be the ones involving Jimmy and Timmy, Such as the Special olympics one and the one when they join the Crips. The Cripple Fight episode, with the fight taken from They Live is a freaking classic too.

There are too many cool episodes to list favoraites, but up there high near the top for me is the Ninja Warriors episode where the boys get ninja weapons at the fair and Butters gets a throwing star in the eye. Whooo just thinking abut it makes me laugh.

Seriously, if you guys like their sense of humor you need to watch the episodes with the mini-commentary tracks on, they are funny as hell. Then, go out and hunt down copies of Cannibal the Musical and Orgazmo, dear god, the drunken commentaries are fantastic.

Trivia time. Let's see how much you know the show. First question:

In "Bebe's Boobs Destroy Society," what scene does Cartman re-enact with his dolls in his basement?

A scene from Silence of the Lambs when that weirdo was holding his dog Precious and telling the girl in the well to put on lotion. Very disturbing the way Cartman did it.

Ok. Hmm. In the episode "Ike's Wee Wee", what was engraved on Ike's gravestone? Bonus point if you know what 'secret" was revealed about Ike.

Yep and if you know that it shouldn't be too hard to remember what the gravestone said. B))

Oh man, I almost forgot about that one! That episode ruled!

"BLOOD ORGY!!!"

Dammit, I searched all over and couldn't find a decent pic of the Blood Orgy! And I thought you could find anything on the internet!

Damn, I forgot that episode. What's the answer?

"Born a Canadian. Died an American."

The other details were "Ike Moisha Broflovski 1996 - 1998"

What are the names of Butter's parents? (Think back to "Butters' Very Own Episode").

that the one with that cool butters intro and butters tells his mom that his dad is a homo?

344055[/snapback]

That's the one but he doesn't exactly say his dad's gay. For an extra trivia question....

Name the movie Butters spied his father watching.

Guess I'll wait until my local station plays the Butters episode.

Man, I'm so behind on South Park. I just started watching the show again after skipping it for over five years. Perhaps when I get a chance, I'll buy all of the DVD boxed sets.

You couldn't be any more correct. Tonight's episode was pretty much dead-on in terms of explaining Scientology.
