Funkenstein Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Sentinel VS Liberty Prime is a legitimate concern.

Macross Elements in the RLAM (no copyright edition) and last and probably....just last Macross Elements in the RLAM (original designs edition) The last three threads will probably be closed down after a while. Even with Seto and jenius kicked out, no one can really have a serious discussion about legalities there. The more they press it, Rapier, BlaqChaos, relak, Ozma Lee, and yoshiii's days are probably numbered. (To Rapier, BlaqChaos, relak, Ozma Lee, and yoshiii if you're reading this... stop it. They don't want you to think that way.)

Seto Kaiba Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 (edited) The last three threads will probably be closed down after a while. Even with Seto and jenius kicked out, no one can really have a serious discussion about legalities there. The more they press it, Rapier, BlaqChaos, relak, Ozma Lee, and yoshiii's days are probably numbered. (To Rapier, BlaqChaos, relak, Ozma Lee, and yoshiii if you're reading this... stop it. They don't want you to think that way.) Yeah, it's pretty much inevitable that those three threads'll be closed down sooner rather than later. As long as Steve leaves things in the hands of MEMO1DOMINION and Maverick_LSC, it's going to be impossible to have a rational discussion about the legalities, let alone a serious one. I'm frankly amazed that yoshii has lasted this long, since all he does is bitch about how if they don't use the original Macross designs it'll be "Robot Tech", not Robotech. It probably won't be long until Maverick_LSC starts to see some other member who actually knows what they're talking about as a threat to his credibility, and that person'll get the boot too. So its like Logan's Run over there and everyone has a glowing crystal showing when their time is up. Nah, it'd only be like that if we had some easy way to tell when they were getting ready to give us the boot for expressing views that make them uncomfortable. Steve and co. seem to have adopted a very Stalinist viewpoint of managing the fanbase... that the source of all problems is man, and that eliminating the problem at its source is the most efficient way to do things... "no man, no problem" as that line of reasoning goes. It looks like, despite being banned, HappyPenguins's website (which openly criticizes Harmony Gold) is still under surveillance by someone at Harmony Gold. There're oddly frequent hits from the same computer in LA. Edited September 21, 2009 by Seto Kaiba

Jasonc Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 According to >EXO< (who's friends with Memo), apparently his English is perfectly fine...when he's speaking. Memo does speak Ingles just fine. And his caps lock isn't broken. What he told me several years ago was that on his laptop, his hands are too big to push the shift button, or something to that effect, and writing in caps lock was just easier. Never really made sense to me, cause I told him it's like yelling at people. He just gave me the classic laugh. I dunno I imagine pizza the hutt thinks memo is not a true robotech fan because he put an end to his asshattery. At least that's the kind of logic that moron uses in his arguments In what thread did PTH get banned? I find that pretty damn funny. If even rt.com or rtx.com doesn't want him, maybe he can try the My Little Pony fansite (if they even have one). In using his own, such eloquent words, "You got owned! You know why you got owned? Cause they say so, and since I want to believe what they say is right, that means you got owned. Owned!!!" OK, back to using brain cells.

taksraven Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 You're spelling and grammar is too good. Which brings up a good reason to enjoy Memo's caps-lock problems...it makes it much easier to parody his style. We should create a MEMO random comments generator. I've seen a few of them on the net over the years. Feed in some of his text and let a program put it together. It would probably make more sense. Taksraven
Moly_Sigang Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I guess the only Robotech site PTH can go now is Disciple of Zor, unless he got banned there also. Then he'll be forced to try the My Little Pony fansite like Jasonc suggested.

Nah, you've missed the whole purpose of their monitoring activities... it's so they can actively seek out those members who are expressing dangerous ideas that might lead to them running the franchise better, producing better products, and having better customer service, and quash them so they can't express those views on Robotech.com. Who really takes the Internet seriously beyond self promotional activities by a company? Apparently Steve Yun and Kevin McKeever do.

MacrossCN Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Macross Elements in the RLAM (no copyright edition) What is RLAM???
Bri Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 RLAM = Robotech Live Action Movie, a live action movie that might be made by Warner Brothers.
EXO Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 What??? All this time I thought it meant Really Lame Adaptation of Macross.... Well you learn something everyday...
Gubaba Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 What??? All this time I thought it meant Really Lame Adaptation of Macross.... Well you learn something everyday... These people are really missing out on good acronyms...seems to me that the Live Action Evangelion Movie should've been called Live Action Movie: Evangelion. And this should've been Live Action Movie Embodying Robotech.
Seto Kaiba Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 RLAM = Robotech Live Action Movie, a live action movie that might be made by Warner Brothers. "Might" is definitely the right word, though Harmony Gold certainly wants to play it off like it's a certainty. From the sound of things, the movie's already stuck in development hell, and they don't even have a script for it yet. They seem to be much more concerned with stirring up hype by making a big to-do out of every minor addition to the pre-production staff (like no-talent hacks Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, and Tom Rob Smith), and hushing up every departure (like Chuck Rovin). Between that and the brouhaha over the movie being a "reimagining" that will in all likelihood be "Robotech" in name only (due to their inability to use Macross designs), there's really nothing worth talking about. Personally, I'm betting it gets the axe before it even makes it to production.
EXO Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Really Lewd Act from Minmay Righteous License Attracting Moviemakers Rick's Loin Against Mimay Robots Looking At Me Run Like A Maniac: cuz this movie will suck
Moly_Sigang Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 RLAM = Robotech Live Action Movie, a live action movie that might be made by Warner Brothers. Too bad for Warner Brothers because HG, the company whom they got the rights from to make this movie, doesn't have the rights to the anime (Macross) which this movie will be based on. That's kinda like buying a car only to be told by the guy who sold it to you that the car doesn't have an engine, so in order for it to work you have to buy the engine separately.

No... they don't care about the story... All the company wants is the name. It's all about franchising the nostalgia with the small built in audience to the people that love to jump on the wagon. Make no mistake. If WB wants to make this movie, they'll get it done. Regardless of licensing issues, copyrights, or ownership.... whatever is released is what HG has to deal with and HG will do it happily. Even if it's a bomb. People on these boards are assuming that they are trying to make this movie while trying to keep the integrity of Macross. Well... even when Hollywood has every right to do a license correctly they choose not to. The only reason you saw an Iron Man and Hulk that was that close to source was because Marvel decided to do it themselves... but as far as Robotech, where so far from the source, you shouldn't be dreaming about anything close to the Macross Saga. You'll get names and thats about it.
BeyondTheGrave Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Rancid, Lascivious, Adulterous Minmay...? *shutters* If that's the case then they can make a series of Pornos. And put the HG seal of approval on it.

You guys really need to work on your automotive analogies. A more appropriate description might be, "That's kinda like buying the rights to the name 'Corvette' for use in a movie called 'Corvette Summer', only to be told that you cannot use the likeness of a Corvette in the movie".
BeyondTheGrave Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 (edited) Come on...you KNOW you want it... I threw up in my mouth a little bit. Was going to put a Memo type post but.... i'll do it tomorrow. You guys really need to work on your automotive analogies. A more appropriate description might be, "That's kinda like buying the rights to the name 'Corvette' for use in a movie called 'Corvette Summer', only to be told that you cannot use the likeness of a Corvette in the movie". both analogies work. yours simpler.. but now lets make it complex... You(assuming your GM) make corvette summer its a hit every where corvette sales go up etc. then your "partner" comes along and says we own everything corvette. You say BS. They Liar and show that they indeed did help with corvette summer but not the corvette itself . Court battles happen and a slight agreement happens. But Corvette Elite happens everyone loves it and wants more. Your so called partner comes back and says we want money for Corvette Elite. You give a stern NO because they didn't help in this production what so ever. So they go back to court. But during this round of moronic battles your so -called partner's buddy (let's call him K.West) who helped with distribution out side of the US put a trademark on the name Corvette (note Corvette is trademarked so this couldn't happen). So K. West who helped just a little bit wants to try and relive the original CS and his adaptation Corvette Xtreme. He stops retailers from selling product relating to CS everywhere except the US. Claiming Yo World I know Corvette Summer is Good and I'm a let em keep makin stuff but Corvette Xtreme is the best. And it squeals coming Soon Corvette 3000, Corvette Sentinel, Corvette 2 and Corvette rising. Some fans say: CX IST HE GRATEST AND K.WEST OWNS ALLT HING RELATED TO CS!!! TEE HE HE But others who have kept up and researched the situation up to this point go No. He owns distribution and product rights outside of the US GM(you) owns the designs for the corvette, CS original designs and character concepts. And from that point on you figure out the rest. Note: If some part of that is messed up feel free to correct it. I'm going to go watch Great Teacher Onizuka, Then House. Don't worry, I'm sure that most (if not all) of us here realise that if (big IF) this film gets made it will hardly resemble anything from the original SDF:M or anything else. Personally though, as I have always stated, I really doubt that this film will get made because the financial outlay vs. potential profits will probably not balance in a way to keep the suits happy. And I think that if they cut a LOT of corners to try to get the budget for the production down the end product is more likely to end up resembling some sort of Michael Bay TF production and then legal troubles could really begin. I dunno. I just cant see it happening. Taksraven
