Why you lazy... Well, cant be helped I guess. ^_^ Though Blu ray info is rather recent. There's only one blu ray edition. You can either get them seperately, or together with a bonus disc.

I assume you mean what they did for the films right? Gunbuster is a heavily edited version of the first 4 episodes and the complete last two with a new foley track and new Japanese dub with the original actors. Diebuster is also condensed with a little bit of new footage.

As far as I know, yes. Purchase wise at least. If you're talking the OAVs, they missed with Gunbuster episode one, and there's a limited, subless version where this isn't so, and contains more extras. KAA's release also corrects this offense.

No. The original foley tracks were lost in a fire, and would require new recordings, like for the film version. That, and it's an obscure enough title that a dub would probably not boost sales enough to warrent the cost. Besides, you have an extraordinary cast in the original, so why would you. B))

That I leave to Keith to answer, since he appears to be the only one to have it. Though I believe he said the Blu ray contains the extra disc that was omitted from the DVD release. I do have a rip with a mysterious audio commentary.

Any show you enjoy is worth supporting the creators for. Plus the actual disc is 1080p. Progressive is a big enough deal. I have rips too, but I still prefer having a solid, proffessional copy over a silver disc marked with sharpie. Not to mention that it's considerably less compressed and not sourced from a comparably low bitrated TV feed.

Any news, Bandit?

Thanks for the info. Also thanks for the link bandit...might go for that movie combo.

Is bandai ever going to release a dub?

Somebody wants to make little old Noriko mad. Asking for a dub on Gunbuster is akin to blasphemy in these parts. :p

GET A ROPE!

I love the original AV's...they did a fantastic job; but there are still days when a dub would be nice. Particularly when I've read a thousand pages of writing in a day. Sorry.

There's no such thing as a good day for a dub, watching crappy acting that ruins the material doesn't equate to watching something.

To be fair, dubs are good with TV dinners.

I found the set at Best Buy, and it solved my extras confusion. BE did include an audio commentary, but no subs for it. What the frigging point of that? It just screams, "this is a port, no new effort was made". I think they only subbed the video extras since that would look especially lazy. I appreciate the inclusion, but I'd like to know what they're saying. Just a thought.

Got my copy on Saturday from Amazon for $31.00, and that's because I had a gift certificate issued as a rewards bonus for the credit card I have through them.

Any idea when we're gonna get the complete, original Gunbuster OAV on Blu-ray? Enough of this half-of-one-show-half-of-another bullshit.

Like I said above, got my copy from Amazon on Saturday. Today I get home from work and there is another box containing the blu-ray set. With the same order number and everything at no extra charge. I'm keeping it as a spare. Their loss, my gain. :)

Bonus, or perhaps a time paradox!

All in all, this set was to be had at quite reasonable prices, as long as those of us who've done so don't remember how much we paid for R2's & R1's of the DVD's...

Sort of helps that it wasn't a double dip for me. Second I heard of the Bluray, I was glad I never afforded the DVD. Though I still want that figure...

Well I have 2, so there!

Yeah, yeah, a winner is you. ^_^

Finally got my Bluray set. Everything's in order, so it's a damn good deal (near half the Best Buy price).

Anyone know if this is the official Japanese set as well? Given the bonus disc inclusion and the ridiculous use of Japanese menus with exclusive access to some features, it tells me that it very well may be. Sort of killing two birds with one stone thanks to the new region A. Substitute slip for a Japanese one (with the correct 2 hours of bonus features listed instead of 90min [per US accessible]) and you're set. It would also explain the translation sheet for the booklets, though that also saves money on redesigning them for english text and makes way for French too.

Still, it rather sucks that there's no subs for the commentary, and one has to navigate a popup menu (which doesn't work in WinDVD BD) in Japanese to get to it.

The Dolby is at a higher bitrate than the PCM interestingly enough.

I wonder if it would be worth while doing a fan edit of it. Namely fleshing out Kazumi and Jung a bit. It's still a well done job story wise, but an added 15 minutes or so would benefit them. Though i suppose it's pointlerss when one can just watch the OAV anyway. Just a random thought.

I'm so incredibly pissed...

But to explain why involves a bit of a backstory. Bear with me here.

In the early 90's, Gainax's garage kit company, General Products made large scale resin kits of 3 Gunbuster ships, a 1/1000 Luxion, 1/20,000 Exelion, and 1/200,000 Extreum. They must have been made shortly before the company went under, because they're not in the last General Products catalog (1989-90). They're all rather rare, but Exelion and Eltreum seem to be exceptionally so.

Years ago, I got lucky in finding the Luxion and Eltreum on Ebay and Yahoo Japan Auctions respectively, and at pretty good prices too. Ever since then, I've been in search of the Exelion kit. Almost to the point of obsession. To illustrate this, I have 5 yahoo japan auctions bookmarked that it MIGHT show up under. I search those at least every other day.

About 5 years ago, I managed to find an Exelion on yahoo japan. But alas, I was unemployed and quite broke, and wasn't able to scrape up enough to cash to place even the opening bid. As much as it pained me, I had to watch it slip away.

Flash forward to last tuesday. I finally found another on yahoo japan. And with a reasonable opening bid of Y6800, and 4 days left on it. I contemplated my bid, and placed one through Celga that would almost surely ensure my winning it. I sent it off, and went to bed.

And when I woke up, I checked the auction. And to my horror, the auction had been ended early. With one bid, for Y6800. And it wasn't Celga.

http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/114950956

I'm still trying to figure out what happened. My best guess is that the seller's only way of backing out of the auction was to place a minimum bid under a friend's account, and end it early. Maybe he accepted an outside offer, or maybe he just decided not to sell it. I'll probably never know. I just know that I can't have it.

And so, the search continues...

I feel your pain. I really hate auctions. I would much rather "Buy It Now" for a reasonable price. I've been sniped one to many times, and it pisses me off every time.

I guess you will have to just wait for another one someday. Just console yourself with the little One Coin Exelion for the time being.

BTW, have you built the Luxion and Eltreum? If so, I would very much like to see pics.

Sorry to hear about that auction, Valk. If the 1/20,000 Exelion ever shows up again, just ask Celga to post a bid ASAP. Normally they wait until the last day to bid in order to get the lowest possible amount, but in this case it backfired. :(

Nothing like having a 6gig connection for sniping. I got so sick of being sniped that I became the sniper. I just bid with 3 sec left and I'm gold.

I've got a Luxion build that's in the works, but on the back burner for now. I actually picked up a second Luxion on ebay a few months ago for a mere $10. But it was partially built (quite badly) and missing some parts. It took forever to strip the thick coats of spraypaint, and I've still gotta cast replacement parts from my complete kit.

I was adding some Macross ringtones to my phone when I realized I had no love for Gunbuster on my phone. I thought I would share. Keep in mind my old RAZR only has mono sound, and I compressed them to a decent size for said RAZR. However, I did add in a stereo version of one of them to be nice. :)

Gunbustaaaaaaa!

The combined Gunbuster isn't just an ordinary machine....Coach's...Coach's...Coach's heart is right here!

So I've been studying Japanese for a while now, and while I still suck at it, I'm starting to get to a point where I can tranaslate stuff. With a lot of help from online dictionaries :p

I'm barely sure how I got started, but I just finished a quickie translation of Ike Ike Bokura no Gunbuster (Go, Go, Our Gunbuster). It's a bit rough, and I had to take a few liberties for the sake of readability, but the core meaning of it all is there. Hope you enjoy.

And for those wanting to listen along, I don't have an MP3 link handy, but it's track 2 of OST1, and track 4 of disc 1 of Sound Collection of Gunbuster

銀河の果て 暗闇の彼方から From the darkness at the other end of the galaxy,

せまる せまる 宇宙怪獣軍団 They're coming! They're coming! The space monster forces!

夜空の星 けちらして襲い来る They're coming to attack us, from the stars of the night sky

守れ!! Protect us!

バスター バスター バスター Buster, buster, buster,

バスターマシン Buster Machine

いまだ 合体だ! Now! Combine!

※青く輝く ぼくらの星を Our blue, sparkling planet,

正義と愛とて守りぬけ Full of love and righteousness, it must be protected

いけいけ ぼくらのガンバスター Go, go, our Gunbuster

きらめく夢 うちくだく大怪獣 Our sparkling dreams, the giant monsters want to crush them

たおせ たおせ 戦う時が今来た Defeat them! Defeat them! The time to fight is now!

宇宙の果て とびこえてどこまでも To the end of space, we will do whatever it takes

進め!! Advance!

Nice, you should upload to animelyrics.c0m if it's still around. Any chance on the vocal version of the Gunbuster march, or Hidaka's song during the Symphonic Poem?

Ooh, good idea, both of those!

I found a japanese site with lyrics for both of those, so I'll see what I can do
