CRYO Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 no mech action again. Freyja's birthday episode. Hayate love Freyja, get some magical present for her birthday. Mirage feels she get no place in his heart and tears falling... These few episodes are quite slow tempo.... but that new ballad "God Bless You" is really good. Quote
RedWolf Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Pretty much Freyja's birthday episode. Last time we saw a girl turn 15 in Macross was Mylene. Freyja also wore the NyanNyan uniform in this ep. Everybody readies for a surprise party and readying their presents. Mirage and Hayate go to buy at the mall. Makina, Reina and Chuck trail them shipping. Mirage goes straight to the point what is Hayate's relationship with Freyja. Hayate doesn't know himself. As they were shopping Freyja's singing affects his senses. As Freyja looks to the constellation where Windermere is. Mikumo joins in speaking as if she has been on Wndermere before. (500,000 years ago) Mirage's comment about home gives Hayate an idea. Everybody surprises, minus Hayate, Freyja with a B-day party. Mikumo starts singing Happy Birthday which the rest of Walkure follows. Freyja get teary. Back home when she was a kid she sung to lift the spirits of her village which suffered after the war. Hayate finally come with his present. Snow via snow machines. He and Freyja have nice moments as Mirage watches. Eventually tears come down due to Mirage's own feelings for Hayate. On other fronts. Mikumo presents a strategy to free the cluster. Last time she sung at a ruin she had a newtype moment with Heinz. So the next mission involves one of the ruins. Arad talks to his old teammate about Wright Immelmen. They agree not to tell Hayate anything. On Windermere Heinz commits himself to escalating the war. Meanwhile the cracks on the Aerial Knights are becoming apparent. Quote

CRYO Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 what? no new stories about hayate's father and his past? Just a few words from Arad, Hayate's father is also a pilot, and he is a very gentle guy... Quote
Marzan Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 A classic feel good episode. If the series ended here, you'd assume that Freyja won the triangle, but there's still plenty of road left to travel. Mirage's tears, aghhh!! But both girls are cool in my book. I'm pretty certain now that Hayate's dad was involved with the bombing incident in Windermere Quote
This Confuses Gamlin Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Much as I'd have liked the plot to move ahead more than it did (which is essentially zero), that was the sweetest thing ever. Quote
ManhattanProject972 Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 I wonder, was Mirage crying for Freyja or because of Freyja Quote
MisaForever Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 While Freyja has grown on me, I still want Haya x Mira. She will have a MAJOR comeback episode!!! Quote
azrael Posted July 17, 2016 Author Posted July 17, 2016 D'awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Great ballad at the end. Otherwise this an all-character highlighting episode. Where did all this merchandise come from? Shouldn't they be worried more about provisions from a city ship that hasn't seen much use since it landed? Quote
Thom Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 I won't be watching until Mission 20 is out. I'd rather sit through nearly two hours of viewing than a short 25 min each week. Quote
Seto Kaiba Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 (edited) All right! I've recovered from a wedding reception-induced hangover, so let's vicariously attend Freyja's birthday party shall we? ... okay, so maybe I've got a filthy, FILTHY mind... but every time I see the Macross Elysion and that city ship docked like that, I half expect the Elysion to "spank" the dome. Kawamori should never be allowed to live this one down. So, Arad and Hayate's father served together in the NUNS. Big shocker (not). Nope, OP2 still does nothing for me... now more than ever I'm hoping we get another season of this show so they have more time to wrap this stuff up and we don't have to tolerate this OP as the last one the series gets. Freyja's been put to work at Ragu Nyan-Nyan since Marianne is missing. It figures they'd find a way to get the Minmay/Ranka into a chinese dress. Frankly, I would've been happier with some embarrassed Mirage in a chinese dress. We finally get the beginnings of an explanation for Mikumo and Freyja's little Newtype moment... and the long overdue erosion of Mikumo's one defining character trait. She's not so mysterious anymore. Problem is, now that we're starting to unravel her mystery, her complete lack of characterization only becomes more evident. She, like Reina and Makina, might as well be one of those cardboard standees Fire Bomber used when their members were missing... it certainly wouldn't change much. Mirage has a phone shaped like that hideous seacat? Talk about bizarre taste... Hayate doesn't seem to mind girls with bizarre taste though, he and Mirage already argue like a married couple. Seems the shippers on deck agree with the Hayate x Mirage hypothesis too... Mirage doesn't mess around either, though Hayate doesn't seem to have picked upon the armor-piercing question. I see that Heinz's throne room is done up with all the bird-related subtlety that Gramia's bedroom was. Sheesh... and he's committing himself to furthering the war against the New UN Government too. Is it just me, or does Hermann look REALLY ill? Whole lotta birthday present-related shenanigans and going-nowhere vague remarks about Hayate's dad later... there's an actual birthday party. Hayate, after acting the space case all episode, came up with a fairly thoughtful present... he brought snow to make Freyja feel more at home. (Where he found a snow machine we'll likely never know, but hey.) Not a bad ballad at the end, but on the whole kind of a flat, by the numbers episode. My vote shall be so conspicuously neutral it'd make Zap Brannigan suspicious. Edited July 18, 2016 by Seto Kaiba Quote

Raptor One Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Hayate almost touched Freiya's rune! And she actually wanted him to this time! The sexual tension in that scene was off the charts. Cute song at the end. Mirage will have her moment. Quote
Graham Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 we better get a mecha action heavy episode or three soon! Quote
BlueMax Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 This episode made me root for Mirage more! This episode seems purely to shoehorn the romance aspect, not sure if it was meant to make us root for Frejya, but it sure had the opposite effect on me. The fact that Frejya didn't shy away when Hayate was almost touching her rune.... well, seeing as it seems analogous to a erogenous zone, seemed to imply that she was willing to let Hayate have his way there and then! Quote
Roy Focker Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Neutral. The major flaw of this episode was the animation quality. I think most of the budget for this show goes towards the music. Quote

squaresphere Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 Though the ep had a very bittersweet tone to it. The shopping scene highlighted that Hayate doesn't really know much about love or even infatuation. The snow scene did a great job of showing how is affection was growing in a very natural way. Mirage still does an admirable job as best wingman by trying to help Hayate find a gift and in a way sort out his feelings toward Freya. All the while suffering the fact Hayate doesn't understand all the clues she's been throwing at him. I will say I was looking forward to some arcade duel action in the mall but i suppose that was my Hayate x Mirage ship leaking out. Back on the bittersweet theme. This is the normal halfway point in a Winderemerian's life. I supposed normally they'd be married and maybe have at least one kid on the way. Hell if we think about it, Freya said she avoided her birthdays cause the mayor would always tell her to get married. That implies at least 2 b days, so it might not be uncommon for them to get married earlier than 12. Some weird decision making by the PC if they really did gene craft the Winderemians life to be shorter but not also give them a faster maturity cycle. Back on Windermere nothing worth noting happens as normal. Arad NOT doing the right thing, he really should have told Hayate the full truth. Maybe not at the b day cause it's probably something awful but they've had plenty of time to have a one on one talk where Arad could provide context with some tact about how Wright was a good guy but made one horrible decision. Overall on the positive side. I will say Delta has handled the triangle the most organically of all modern macrosses. Quote

Overall on the positive side. I will say Delta has handled the triangle the most organically of all modern macrosses. Who's to say his dad made a horrible desision? It might have been a decision to not shoot a ten year old stealing the bomb. Though it sounds like the official spacey and Windamere stories are wrong and Arad knows the truth. So Fryja just turned roughly 50. And Mirage managed to get Hyate to ponder his feelings for her rival. Between that and her referencing the fasion magazine it was a good reminder that Mirage is actually still a teenager. Semi related does anyone have a guess as to why Mirage got so dlustwrws at the prospect of the party? Quote
hachi Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 I'm so glad I didn't read the spoilers like I usually do. I liked this episode a lot. And I also like that new song. Quote

Semi related does anyone have a guess as to why Mirage got so dlustwrws at the prospect of the party? Yeah from what Arad said Wright was too kind for his own good. There is a possibility Roid and Keith did it. It could be the reason Robert Kino doesn't like Wright Immelman is because he couldn't shoot a kid. Not only did it destroy the NUNS base but wiped out an entire city. Roid disturbingly reminds me of Dr. Hasford. Presuming what the Protoculture wants. He wants to make the same failures as the Protoculture did creating a slave empire. Edited July 18, 2016 by RedWolf Quote

Not almost, he actually does tap it, which then triggers his light blushing reaction when she just kept looking at him with that very to the point look. It sounds like a finger tapping a palm lightly. Quote
mzhao3 Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 I like to imagine Makina is just a huge troll and she's coping with the outbreak of war by getting involved in her team mates personal lives. Quote

If he did tell him, would it have changed anything that's happening now? Spoiler'd cuz this part is speculative until they reveal what happened. Would Wright have been able to live with himself after that? He had a son roughly the same age Roid and Keith were. Even though Roid and Keith were more mentally matured than a human child, they still looked like children to Wright's eyes. Quote
