Digging these little details. Color separation via the plastic is not so important to me but having them separate parts makes painting smooth and easy.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Seto Kaiba replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
FWIW, I enjoyed it clear through to the end. Scarlet is so delightfully free of the usual restraint and timidness of so many other female leads in her genre, and I promise the punching does not stop until the very end. -

This looks. So. Good. Incredible talent! I wish someone would release the TV version. I prefer it to the DYRL (just more of an emotional connection).

Christmas bombed; my wife is still in the hospital and may not be out until after New Years (or even later). She's been in since Dec. 9th. Half the time sitting here crying, the other half just sitting here numb. -
What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Stampeed Valkyrie replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Wrapped up Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill Season 2.. not bad. I think the premise might be getting abit long in the tooth, but I would still watch a S3 if they dropped one. And I finally found a title from this last season, that as of at least Ep 4 has me happily coming back for more.. May I Ask For One Final Thing? I am enjoying this series quite abit, its got more action then No Punch Man S3.. just sayin. Hopefully it doesn't crap the bed in the end.. but if it does.. shhhh.. let me enjoy this brief respite from meh.. this Fall 2025 anime season.. đ -

Talk about worldbuilding extraordinaire! -
There's areas that can be improved upon (the head turning to the side, a slightly wider A-stance, more knee bend, a thigh or knee swivel joint, and allowing the chest covers to drop just a smidge to not block the bottom row of missiles). But it's such a massive, revolutionary improvement over all previous Tread designs that I gotta agree with your take. This is what 15+ years of design improvements should look like (glares angrily at Bandai).

Actually, this kit has two pilots. DYRL and TV versions. so, for the changed parts. here the original one (one big black canopy piece - step 4). and here, the new version where they cut off a piece of the canopy, just to have this little piece molded in white. (Step 10) I decided to use the water slide decals. They are already really soft, so mark setter almost melted them away. Iâll probably peel this one off and use one from the leftover sheet of the other vf-1 i just build. But everything else comes along quite well. Itâs a bit more pieces and stuff to panel line. Few more highlights to set. But hey, itâll be fine.

DX Chogokin VF-31A Kairos - Macross Delta 10th Anniversary
Chronocidal replied to MKT's topic in Toys
I think I did grab one of these from AE at release, but we'll see how that goes. If they show up in the Amazon bargain bin, I'll probably grab a couple more for customizing. Those stands are an interesting thing, though. As much as I appreciate the half-assed attempt at making the stands slightly less ducking fugly by making the mounts out of transparent plastic, I just can't trust them. The first time I mounted a VF-1 on one, that clear plastic started a stress fracture right at the connection point. Still a decent base to build a better mount onto, but those chonky plastic cradles have always looked terrible to me, and I'd rather either use landing gear, or stand the valks vertically on their feet. -

I got my Tread pre-ordered with Nin-Nin back at the initial pre-order, and have yet to hear from them about any shipping option, so I'm biding my time. I asked about shipping when it came in, and they said something about their warehouse shipping working.. not like any other site I've seen with a warehouse option. Something about shipping out as a bulk order at the end of the month? I don't know. But that was right as the tariffs hit, and I held off trying to ship it, since I don't know if they ever worked out a method. Then holiday travel happened. Hopefully I can actually get it shipped out soon.

Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
Seto Kaiba replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
"Transitional" feels like the wrong word for it. After all, real(istic) robot anime didn't exist as a genre before the original Mobile Suit Gundam series. They were defining what it meant to be a non-super robot anime as they went and everyone that came after built on that concept. Mobile Suit Gundam made a clean break with a lot of iconic super robot tropes. The titular robot was a military prototype built for a morally ambiguous war between humans and a weapon based on explicable, reproduceable, practical technology meant for mass production. Its capabilities were impressive, but finite and limited by its specs. Its weapons were only what you could see and did not exceed the capabilities of more conventional platforms. It wasn't Earth's sole defender or even necessarily involved in many key conflicts. Super Dimension Fortress Macross went a fair bit further with the idea by having the Valkyries and Destroids already be mass produced weapons before the war started and by putting more detail into the designs themselves that emphasize their practicality and both "real" vehicles and military hardware. In his Macross Design Works book, Shoji Kawamori talks a bit about how the design of the VF-1 entered unprecedented territory by including realistic details emphasizing its practical use like its aerodynamic control surfaces, landing gear, or the way various parts of it fold or open for maintenance and storage. They went further than simply putting a giant robot into a realistic setting and emphasized trying to make the robot itself feel more grounded and believable as a practical weapon of war. That same unusual attention to detail shows up in Miyatake's designs for the Destroids too. Not only did they prioritize having a clear design lineage and show common platforms in use for different purposes, they went as far as figuring out things like how the various joints should be articulated, where the ammunition for certain weapons are stored and how the feed systems work, and even giving them realistic military bumper codes and bumper numbers based on US military formation markings. (That same attention to detail even extends to the Zentradi mecha, where Macross's creators even bothered to sit down and figure out how the Zentradi forces markings would work and even how they would record kill marks.)
