This is going to be a very short review, as the above-mentioned Max and Miria toys are pretty much identical to Yamato’s earlier Hikaru VF-1J Super release.

Basically, the only differences, besides the paint job and box art is that the Max and Miria toys (note the new name spelling on the box) now have correctly sculpted TV type pilots in the correct color flight suits.

There were no major surprises with these toys. They transformed exactly the same as all of Yamato’s 1/60 line and have the same features that we have all come to know and love (or hate), depending on your view. On the plus side, I was impressed by the paint job on these toys and I actually like the colors that Kawamori-san instructed Yamato to use.

On the negative side, the neck pivot piece was very stiff on the Miria toy and initially could not pivot into the correct position for Battroid mode. I had to partially disassemble the torso and wiggle the neck-piece for a while to get it to loosen up. It is now fine. That is the only QC problem I had with these toys, which I should note are pre-production samples.

Both the Max and Miria toy are due to go on sale together at the end of January 2003.
