Do You Remember Love BD Alterations Confirmed

Anime News Network has confirmed with Namco Bandai that certain shots in the upcoming Do You Remember Love Bluray remaster will be ‘altered’. It is unconfirmed at this time exactly which shots these will be or whether they are the same ones that were observed in the recent theatrical screenings.

The DYRL BD discussion thread can be found here.

30th Anniversary News Updates

Macross The MUSICULTURE

Firstly, some updated news regarding the upcoming Macross The MUSICULTURE musical.

In commemoration of both the MUSICULTURE (that word just HAS to be typed in caps!) and the 30th anniversary, Tokyo Dome City – the greater location that the musical will be held at (ie, its going to be at Tokyo Dome which is within Tokyo Dome City) is creating some Macross campaigns and promotions. These include a stamp rally within the amusement park (renamed the Superdimensional Amusement park – completing the rally gets you an original clear file), rides will be decorated Macross-style (the ferris wheel will be decorated with pics, gondolas will play Macross BGM, Sheryl and Ranka will have pre-recorded announcements, etc), Macross-themed food and drinks will be designed exclusively for the venue, and the store/shopping area will have a special Macross merchandise section.

This promotional campaign will be split into two periods. Period 1 is from Sept. 28 to Oct. 15, and Stage 2 is from Oct. 16 to Nov. 4.

Both the DYRL BD and the August issue of Appli Newtype (on stands July 25) will include codes for special items for use in the game.

More Sheryl Manga

The Summer 2012 issue of Betsu-Fure will feature the first 61 pages of the continuation of the ‘Sheryl – Kiss in the Galaxy’  manga. The 4th tankobon has also been dated for an October release. More details will no doubt be available when the Summer issue of Betsu-Fure hits bookstores.

Countdown to DYRL BD — “Super Dimension Seminar” Episode 3 Airs

Monday night: It’s that time of the week, kids — the Super Dimension Seminar is back, and this installment’s butchering re-edit of classic Macross is not a TV episode, but rather the first half of the movie “Do You Remember Love”.  Obviously, this is to give those who were not lucky enough to attend the special Shinjuku screening of the soon-to-be-released BD Remaster a taste of the goodies to come.  Just to make sure, Sheryl pops up once again at the end to remind you to buy the big fat box set.

So, do you remember Do You Remember Love?  Well, let us try to refresh our memories, in glorious HD this time.

Screencaps to follow.

Outlook for the FB2012 version of the VF-4 Lightning – Not So Good

As suspected before, it is due to licensing that Yamato will NOT be releasing the Flashback 2012 version of the VF-4 Lightning.

According to this statement posted on Yamato’s page: “We wanted to make it in the white version in FlashBack 2012 but due to licensing issues it wil be the gray version in VF-X”.

Hopefully Yamato does include stickers or even decals for those brave enough to paint their limited version web exclusive toy and re-deco it as the iconic skull squadron scheme from the Angel’s Paint video.

My suggestion to them would be a white non-paint version follow up with all the appropriate markings.

Countdown to DYRL on BD — A look back at 2005’s “BS Anime Yawa: Macross Do You Remember Love” TV special

As we count down the days to the release of the greatest animated movie ever, “Macross: Do You Remember Love” on Blu-Ray Disc, I thought I would give people a bunch of homework to do in preparation for the big party.

“BS Anime Yawa” (“BS Anime Night Talk”) is a series of TV specials hosted by Gainax/General Products founder Toshio “Otaking” Okada on the NHK BS-2 satellite broadcasting service.  The programmes focus on classic and/or famous anime shows and act as retrospectives to contextualize these shows within the bigger picture of the evolution of Japanese animation, as well as providing some insight into the behind-the-scenes goings-on of the productions.

This particular episode, airing on June 29th, 2005, focused on “Macross: Do You Remember Love”, and featured Ichiro Itano, anime director Hiroyuki Kitakubo (keyframe artist on the original “Macross” TV series and movie), movie director Tomoyuki Furumaya and voice actress Rica Fukami (Myung in “Macross Plus”) as guest panelists.

Bandai’s 30th Anniversary Special YF-29 in Focker Scheme with Gallery

As posted two weeks ago here, Bandai is releasing a special 30th Anniversary version of their DX 1/60 YF-29 in Roy Focker’s classic yellow and black scheme. MW member, ff95gj, just posted pictures of this toy from Bandai’s Tamashii Nation web page. Good luck getting this one…

Vote on our Poll! Would you buy the 1/60 Yamato VF-4G?

As we learned from this article, Yamato is currently running a non-binding pre-order sale for their upcoming 30th anniversary web site exclusive 1/60 scale VF-4G. The pre-order will decide how the high end collectors’ item will be priced.

We all expected this bird to be the same one that was seen in  “Angel’s Paint (Tenshi no Enogu)” from the collection of Minmay videos named Flashback 2012. But as it turns out the toy that will be released will be in the scheme that was seen in the Sony Playstation game; Macross Digital Mission: VF-X. It is assumed that this is due to licensing but it also maybe due to the fact that we never actually see the Lightning transform in the FB2012 video. But in the video game version, a newer model called the VF-4G Lightning III did have the other two modes.

“Super Dimensional Seminar” Episode 2 Airs

Monday’s episode of “Super Dimensional Seminar” introduced the kiddies to the wonders of episodes 6 (“Daedalus Attack”), and 9 (“Miss Macross”).

As she did last week,  Sheryl-sensei (whose research specialty is apparently “Galactic Macross History”) rounds everything up by reminding you that similar things happened in Frontier.

“The Men Who Made Macross” Special Airs

An hour-long TV special documentary aired on July 8th at 8pm on the Tokyo MX station as part of the Macross 30th Anniversary celebrations and to promote the upcoming “Macross: Do You Remember Love?” Blu-Ray release.

The show was well made, with plenty of interesting information about the production of the original TV series from the first “Battle City Megaroad” concept, to the production of the “DYRL” feature film, all straight from the mouths of Shoji Kawamori, Haruhiko Mikimoto, Ichiro Itano, Kazutaka Miyatake and Yasunori Honda (sound director) as they reminisce their younger days.

Some screencaps for your viewing pleasure, and more info, follow after the jump.
