Macross World Convention 2013 Welcomes Back Mari Iijima

mari piano mwconAs previously mentioned on our face book page and as she announced on her own, Macross World Convention is pleased to welcome back Mari Iijima for 2013! Known to Macross fans as the voice of Lynn Minmay from the original series, Mari Iijima now lives in the U.S. as an accomplished musician, actress and advertising model. She has graced our convention before and as always we are very excited to have her return to perform and sign autographs. With the bigger venue this year, we are hoping that everyone will get a good view of her performance. But get your seat early, because it’s always a packed house when Mari starts to play.

Macross World Convention 2013 Announces Special Guest Hidetaka Tenjin

Big news everyone… Macross World Convention is thrilled to announce that Hidetaka Tenjin will be a special guest for this year’s convention.

tenjin Macross Con

Tenjin, as he is known to us Macross fans, is the artist that has provided art for many Macross products that has been released in recent years including all Hasegawa Macross model kits, the latest Macross blu-ray box sets, and most recently Arcadia’s limited edition 1/60 30th Anniversario VF-1J toy. He also created the scheme for that special valkyrie. He has also helped in designing and implementing the 1:1 scale VF-25 and VF-1S being displayed in Japan. Aside from Macross, he has provided designs for Gundam and Space Battleship Yamato.

Hidetaka Tenjin has agreed to do a panel that will include a Q&A session, autographs and a special dinner with a few lucky fans (details for each event will be announced soon).

Macross World Convention will be held at the Ken Miller Auditorium in Torrance, California on October 5th, 2013.

Arcadia’s 1:1 scale Nekki Basara “Fire Bomber” Model Guitar Official Page

Arcadia’s newest Macross product page recently went live and it’s for the 1:1 scale replica of Basara’s iconic guitar from Macross 7. Previously seen as a potential Yamato Toys release, we’ve been getting images of this guitar in trade shows and at the Yamato open houses for quite a while now. We’ve even had reports of Yoshiki Fukuyama handling the guitar in one gig.

Tentatively priced at 350,000円, this fully functional collector’s piece is obviously aimed at the biggest and most well to do Fire Bomber fan. According to the page, Mr. Fukuyama himself had input as far as the guitar’s body design. The guitar will be hand made and made to order. It also warns that each piece will take several months in production. Each run will be done in quantities, the first run will be limited to ten. A case, 4 picks and guitar strap will be included, with each item emblazoned with the Fire Bomber logo.

Fan Art VF-0S by Prasit Ployphisut from our Facebook Page

Check out this beautiful painting of Roy’s VF-0S from one of our Facebook fans, Prasit Ployphisut. The most amazing thing is that he did it on Adobe Illustrator, so this is a vector based image. Incredible!

Bandai shows off their 1/72 Transformable VF-1 at the Shizuoka Hobby Show

Updated with more images at the bottom.

Bandai debuts its perfect transformation 1/72 scale plamodel at the Shizuoka Hobby Show .

The kit is shown with the VF-1S Strike, the VF-1A Battroid, another VF-1S in fighter mode and what looks like another VF-1A in GERWALK. This is Bandai’s lastest version of the VF-1 since the 1/100 transformable toy. While the detail is impressive, there’s some huge shortcomings overall aesthetically. But with the lack of Macross products in the market, will this lone representation of the 30 year old design prevail in the market?
