tekering Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Oh man, I've always wanted something like this! http://news.toyark.com/2018/02/22/nova-ubiquitous-ub-01-modular-diorama-set-hand-gallery-290523 It's just generic enough to work as any space station, starship interior or spacecraft hangar... which is probably why they call it "The Ubiquitous." TangledThorns Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 You'd think there was something like this out already. There should be moar toy accessories like this! Quote
jvmacross Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Only saw one config that looked ok enough for Macross..... at 70 a set....I'd need to be able to get at least three of them out of the box.....Chain bases are still the best for mecha.....ideally I would want a Macross specific hangar display....but I don't see getting an "official" Bandai HM-R release.... For mecha hangars, there are several options available. For action figures, however, there's nothing on the market like this. Which is not to say it doesn't suit mecha as well, mind you... Quote
anime52k8 Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 A little pricey, but it looks cool. the longer I look at it though the less it works for mecha. at 1/100 scale it looks like you could loose a person through the holes in the floor panels Quote
tekering Posted March 13, 2018 Author Posted March 13, 2018 Pre-order sales have guaranteed the release of further expansion sets, which include a whole new set of optional panels; I know they're designing a Death Star-specific set, but a 1:100 (or even 1:144) mecha-compatible series would also sell well, I'm sure. Thanks for the suggestion! In the meantime, I continue to explore the possibilities for action figure playsets: I've been experimenting with Photoshop enhancements, too. Endless possibilities! Quote
ZorClone Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 I love the shot with the Imperial shuttle, the Colonial Marines, and the Enterprise crew scenes.. those look fantastic. I need to get the rest of those Enterprise figures Had no idea there were BSG figures, lol. Quote
tekering Posted March 13, 2018 Author Posted March 13, 2018 DST released 30 Battlestar Galactica figures, by my count. Most of them are decent likenesses, and come with character-specific accessories. I opened a handful recently, just to photograph with The Ubiquitous: 1:48 spacecraft models photograph quite well, too. Quote
ZorClone Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 Yeah, I've been eyeing those sets over the last few months. The integrating lighting they offer is really neat too. Quote
007-vf1 Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 I have also became very curious when I saw them on some retailers a while ago without much details of what came in the package. Tekering; Were you able to build all of these versions from just one set? Quote
jvmacross Posted March 13, 2018 Posted March 13, 2018 The pics with the mecha pretty much ruled this thing out for me......especially for the HM-Rs.....guess we keep waiting for Bandai or someone else to come up with something good....maybe someone can convince KitzConcept to come out with one for that new 1/72 VF-1 line... Can't beat what you can do with a set of chain bases for mecha..... But honestly.....we just want someone to make this one at different scales...all painted and ready for display.....now that would be worth $70+++... Quote

A single set includes a lot of parts, actually. Mind you, this shot was done against a mirror: ...and this playset combines two sets (and an unrelated table accessory). 6 hours ago, jvmacross said: Can't beat what you can do with a set of chain bases for mecha... In all fairness, it's much too early to make comparisons like that. Your examples are heavily modified, with custom paint, lighting, panel work, and markings added. I have a lot of similar ideas for customizing The Ubiquitous, but I've only been allowed to post photographs of the product as-is... However, since it's shipping to retailers now (Hobby Link Japan has already sold out all their pre-order stock), we'll soon be seeing the true potential of the product! Quote

No worries....it looks good for non-mecha figures, which seems to be the main focus....your pics have demonstrated that.....you've probably saved many MW members a lot of money! Mazinger Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 The shot with the Aliens figures makes it look like they were made specifically to look like LV-426. Quote
Dynaman Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Impressive! Truly amazing how it goes with just about everything. Quote
sh9000 Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 The diorama set looks great and nice pics tekering but the set is too expensive. Quote
spacemanoeuvres Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 (edited) I like it! I have 2 dozen chain bases that I’m happy with but these look great as well. If you can’t track down the koto chain bases the gundam machine nests are a nice substitute, they come with more accessories, and they are dirt cheap: http://www.gundammodelcenter.com/cg-machine-nest-action-base-gundam Edited March 14, 2018 by spacemanoeuvres Quote
jvmacross Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 LOL....if you want dirt cheap may as well wait for the "ubiquitous" KO! Quote
tekering Posted March 29, 2018 Author Posted March 29, 2018 NOVA is considering doing a limited release expansion set for The Ubiquitous in Autobot and Decepticon-themed colors, so I've been asked to produce some color samples. What do you think? Quote
tekering Posted March 29, 2018 Author Posted March 29, 2018 I think it works with colorful anime-style figures, but not so much with live-action characters... Quote
Mechapilot77 Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 this set really does look great, just a bunch of money for it though most would rather spend on figures rather than backdrops....though these are really nice. Quote
