Well less than 2 months for Macross F... great B))

I agree that the VF-11 and the Vf-4 are too old to appear in Macross F but in Macross Seven the VF-1J Millia type was too old and it appeared... so I hope in Macross F we could watch them but I know that is pretty dificult to happen...

BTW I am pretty sure that we are going to see a new versions of the VF-19 and the VF-22, I just a feeling I have

Maybes, maybes Not. Think about this. Why did we even see SDFM mecha in M7? From what i've read and seen of the series, the mecha was owned by retired UNS personnel, right? All those civilianized VF-1's and Destroids... thought i really doubt they would let a old 'Monster' Crew keep a fully functional HWR.

Millia (and i suppose Max) kept thier VF-1J's under the same agreement, though fully functional (possibly up to date avionics or motors? pointly to speculate thier on such a silly series) because of thier political clout.

mayhaps some MF citizens have demilled VF's of what ever flavor the TOY and MODEL makers might be willing to invest in?

....because remember, what we see is what they might MAKE, as a toy or model. Why did they update the VF-171 from a VF-17? perhaps the current owners of MF CAN'T USE previous Macross Cannonized designs as is, because the TOY or MODEL makers can't get the rights to use updated previous designs?

it's been like 10-15 years, In Cannon from M7 (2045~6) to the current time line (2059) and only 2 designs previous between the VF-19 production run and VF-25?

i'm tired. i'm sure i'm making a point but i'm too pooped to think... ^_^

Good point.

There would be merchandizing rights issues with toys in series other than SDFM and Mac7!

So it is conceivable that we will see Mac 7 era fighters appearing in the show. Most likely the ones that sold the most for Bandai back in the 90's when Mac 7 first aired.

So we may well see a VF-19P, VF-17's and maybe even some VF-22's, but at this point it is really all just speculation as to which old fighters we'll see if any.

If Frontier follows the merchandizing roadmap of Mac 7, Bandai will probably insist on at least 3 types of variable fighters for merchandising and it appears we have that already. The VF-171, VF-25, VF-?? and Koenig Variable Monster (though it will be interesting to see how bandai markets that one, since Yamato already has a toy out for it).

Hopefully with WonderFestival taking place next week (24th) we'll finally know what Bandai's plans are for Mac F :)

And mecha stats. Needs a better translation. Lots of updates to the MF website.

Mecha

VF-25 (normal configuration, Alto and Ozuma-types)

Successor to VF-171 in NUNS. Developed as the next generation VF. Details are still confidential.

Weapons: Assault rifle/machine gun for the pilot, Beam cannon, head lasers, new-style gunpod.

Fighter

Length: 18.72m

Width (full wingspan): 15.5m

Height: 4.03m

Battroid

Height: 15.59m (with head lasers included)

Full Armor

Additional armament and dedicated special equipment. The VF-1 Full Armor was limited to battroid-use, but the VF-25 remains variable and it is possible to fly. Detailed data has not been disclosed.

VF-171

Based of VF-17. Developed as a multipurpose heavy fighter. Most popular current variable manned fighter / bomber in 2059. Macross Frontier's NUNS main VF. VF-171 is highly versatile and easy to pilot.

Macross Frontier

Macross Frontier is a large-scale immigrant fleet of the total 10 million people scale. Flagship is called "Island 1/One". It is in the center and is composed of various big and small spaceships. About half of the population in the resides in Island One.

EX Gear

It is a reinforced exoskeleton type powered suit. Special suit that becomes pilot seat and lifesaving for new model VF units. Variable small jet engine and large wing. Flight is also possible.

Bisei(translation) pilot training course in the high school campus It is assumed that one can board a new VF and train using the EX-Gear because basic performance is the same standard as the military use. Although equipment has been simplified. Collaboration is possible in new-model VF cockpit.

Characters

Alto Satome- nothing new here. In the flight program at school. Gets mistaken for a girl due to his long hair and feminine features. Yearns to fly even though he comes from a kabuki theater heritage. At odds with his dad over flying. He doesn't really like to live on Frontier.

Ranka Lee - nothing new. Dreams of being a singer.

Sheryl (alt. Cheryl) Nome - From Macross Galaxy. Always ranks high on the Galaxy Network charts. "There isn't a day in the Milky Way when Sheryl's song is not heard". Highly confident and pride is particularly high.

Mikhail (or Michael?) Buran - Womanizer (based on the description). He's the one who coined the "Princess Alto" nickname. One of the best shooters. His aim is the best, whether the enemy or the ladies.

Luca Angeloni - Junior to Mikhail and Alto. Causes bewilderment among embarrassed seniors frequently. Is very talented with computers and military electronic equipment.

Nanase Matsuura - classmate of Alto and Mikhail. Works at the Chinese restaurant with Ranka. She has a withdrawn and docile personality. Big supporter of Ranka's singing dreams.

Ozuma Lee - SMS Skull squadron leader. Former NUNS pilot with lots of experience. Jokes around and is somewhat indifferent. The lives of the soldiers and citizens comes before the mission. Overprotective of Ranka. As not to concern Ranka, he lies to her and says he works in "Personnel department doing clerical work".

Cathy (or Kathy) Glass - First Lieutenant in the NUNS Joint Chiefs' staff office. Bright, beautiful and intelligent. Enlisted in the NUNS after graduating from college. Faithful to the service and inflexible on the job. Was a runner-up on the Miss Macross F contest.

Bobby Margo - Helmsman of SMS combat vessel. "the girl is not entirely content". Former hair stylist and is adored as a good understanding person by the female crew. Deep unrequited love for Ozuma.

Howard Glass - President of NUN. Administrative head of Frontier. Has political authority and responsibility to maintain the safety of all citizens and personnel in all space travel.

Leon Mishima-Chief of Staff of NUN Executive Office of the President. Always calm and concerned about President Glass' political foundation and policy.

Pretty cool. So the vf-171 is a cannon fodder then? Doesn't seem as menacing now as it did in macross 7 as the vf-17 Nightmare (which sounded intimidating :D)

Anyone piloting a vf-171 will probably die a horrible death like the brownies and vf-11 pilots.

So if the vf-25 is the hero mecha, will there be something like an upgrade to that mecha like how the VF-1 got its FAST pack in SDF:M as the upgrade, I wonder? (something like a FP v2 or something?)

So we got knives, beam cannon, and special powered exosuits: no sign of dr. chiba style sound weapons yet...phew! :D

I'm not surprised that it turned out to be Vajra. But here's my question (which may have been covered in another thread): does the name "Vajra" refer to the insect-ish mecha units, or the faction/alien race?

That hasn't been made completely clear. It only lists it as "Small" for the small hammer-head ones and "Large" for the big red guys.

It's great that the official site has been updated, although I'd like to see more in the way or hard stats for the mecha, especially exact weapon loadouts and engine thrust.

Seems there's no mention of pinpoint barriers, wonder if they have them?

Some more VF-171 pics would have been nice as well.

Thought I'd snag the pics from the official site and post them here.

Damn lousy background. They just HAD to put these beautiful pictures against a lousy background that can't be deleted easily with the magic wand.

*grrrr*

Oh well, I guess cleaning the pictures the hard way will make it all worthwhile in the end. Finally, some Macross Frontier profiles for me site :)

Seems Kawamori is back to his hindu/buddhism stuff as seen in Aquarion....prana and what not.

But seems the VF-25 Alto version and Ozma version do not have a differentiating designation, except those japanese words in brackets. Anyone know what it means? Commander unit?

This = ノーマル?

Just means normal, same for both. Probably to distinguish between the vanilla valks and the super ver. =)

No info yet on the Elint VF-171? I want to see that valk in batroid mode since I'm wondering what happened to the lower fin in batroid mode

No melee weapon on the VF-25 weapon listing, so does this mean that the knife from the manga is not official?

Dunno if this is of any significance, but my bet is Vajra is a weapon.

Why?

The Vajra used to be a religious artifact, but from my understanding, when I read "Secrets of the Samurai - The Martial Arts of Feudal Japan" by Adele Westbrook and Oscar Ratti, they described the Vajra as more of a weapon, highly favoured by Buddhist monks. The Vajra itself underwent many modifications, not just aesthetic, but practicality, as it was used to deflect and parry weapons, especially snapping sword blades.

Having said that though, the writers could have just thought that it was a cool name to use, and might not relate to it being a weapon at all.
