Media Player Classic keeps giving me error messages when I try to grab these screens. You can see what may be the NUNS insignia just as it starts to fly infront of Michel (after the reflection in his helmet), and again just as the VF-27 transforms and flies away as the Quarter moves in for the kill. Its on the top of the wing.

I could be wrong, and Kresphy could be wrong, but it looks like the NUNS insignia to me. It also has a new one toward the nose, wish I could grab a screenie of it.

Hmm. I'll have to fire up VirtualDub later and check this out--though it probably doesn't change Harmonica's status (and that of his apparent wing/posse) as something whatshisface (Sterne?) is keeping under his hat...well, eyepiece. A top secret experiment, something that isn't even related to NUNS but that he's keeping quiet (then again, depending on what the hell is going on with the NUNS itself, who knows?), whatever...

No one has mentioned this yet... they're not fighting where the Galaxy is. They are fighting where the two ships from the Galaxy fleet de-folded to (where the scouts had deployed a Relay Pod). Next episode looks like its back to life aboard the Frontier, but I am wondering WTF happened to the Galaxy and the rest of its fleet.

hmmm.

let's try these pics.

The more I look at it, the more I feel that the "face" of the VF-27 have some similar feel to the Vajra face. Anyone feel the same?

I wonder what is their relationship.

Someone here said something about reverse engineering, which wouldn't be a surprise, I suppose. The VF-27 seems to be far more advanced than the -25. While we're not 100% on the NUNS markings on the VF-27 (well, I am ;) ), Brera does have Zentradi ears, and he carries a harmonica (I like the Harmonica nickname, BTW, very Sergio Leone), so think one can safely assume there is some UN connection there.

Where are you getting that he's called Harmonica? I have yet to see anything concrete on that?

Someone here started calling him that, its not official or anything. Its like "Richard Vilra" will always be "Dick Vilra" to me.

Harmonica.

Oooh, "Once Upon a Time in Space..."

Love it.

I figure she is using a combination of both holograms and real outfits. She probably changes when the outfit she's wearing is too different from the hologram or when she gets too sweaty

Alright, I'll buy that  (The things they do to deliver the goods/fan service )

And I agree, let's show Bobby some love, he rocked in this episode! I didn't imagine it coming from him.

I think this is what you're talking about. First one looks just like canards or the tail to me. Second one seems like a logo but the motion is way too fast to make it out. I guess it'll have to stay a mystery for a little longer.

Just seen the whole thing in high quality raw.

Ppl are gonna lynch me if i mention anything about the 2D art here....so i won't say anything except that it still kinda meh.

People have mentioned already that we don't see "cannon fodders" being deployed and don't get a sense of how large the scale of the battle was. We get blue and red streaks flying about to represent cannon fodder vs enemies. We only see Skull Squadron in action and only barely seeing Pixie and Koenig Monster haxx0rz so it seems like they were the only ones participating in the battle. Should've shown more cannonfodder blowing up, nameless pilots screaming, etc. But i like how Skull are depicted as an independent special forces team, save Alto and Luca being reckless.

The destroids on the Quarter look very much like the Cheyenne from M0. Nice!

Macross Cannon's activation has the Japanese characters flashing across the screen....lol....gave me Aquarion vibes, especially when Bobby was the one firing it GAR-Gay-ly.

Mysterious enemy (old fugly man & Brera Sterne) seem not to be alien but splinter from NUNs or something. Let the conspiracy begin.

The tentacled thing that was holding Luca captive looked like a giant fold booster. Luca mentions that he's detecting a fold reactor in the ship before he got captured by a red lobster. Hmmm....what does it mean?

Ep 8 preview.....wth.....quality sunk to new low?

Best I could do:

The last shot is as clear as you can get, and that certainly looks like the NUNS insignia to me. The -27 is moving in this scene, and the design stays consistent.

Lastly, the unknown insignia near the nose:

Definitely a bad preview of next episode. Is it just me but I always thought that you should showcase the cool stuff in the previews to hook viewers into watching the next episode. Or is it that those are the best they can come up with? :o

"Old fugly man" is Dick Vilra, and I had been under the impression that he owned SMS, (or atleast controlled them in some sense), but that might not be the case. He clearly is a person of some importance in the Frontier fleet.

Not every episode is mecha action, ya know. :)

Was he ever directly referred to as Richard Vilra yet or is this on the official website or fan conjecture?

Well said. And especially after the mechagasm that was DYRL in 60 Seconds, Episode 8 will be the proverbial cigarette...

EDIT: thanks for posting those, veffidas. So Harmonica (as it appears) definitely has someone in the NUNS's blessing...

I also feel that there is very little actual "dogfight" sequences for such a battle. It is a great ep, but I feel that for such a big battle, maybe a bit more "action" is to be expected. But I still love this generally.

Wasn't Dr. Hasford part of the Anti-UN forces? Those fighters look like Sukhoi/Israel Aircraft Industries/Dornier SV-51's.

AHH!!! You're all bastards for talking Episode 7 up!!! I'm stubborn and refuse to watch it until the Gattai Sub comes out (Hopefully early Sunday morning). I feel like a little kid who can't sleep on Christmas Eve waiting for that sub to come out!!!! :(

Hey this is the first time I broke down and watched a RAW. I only understood parts of it cause my Japanese is pretty limited.

I don't think there are any doubts here, NUNS definitely.

May be im showing my age here but I've only ever seen SDFM when I was a kid on free air tv until last year when I discovered M0 and DYRL and now MF.... Read about other Macross series and was never interested in the whole spirita (sp?) thing or when they went nuts with the music-as-a-weapon business, or for that matter, using guitars as flight controls.... madness......

Why did I just say the above? I think the unknown insignia is a guitar...... <_<

Unfortunately I haven't spoken Japanese since I lived there 3 years ago. Now it's all out the window. I'd rather watch it and have an understanding of what is going on. But right now I could be watching Mecha pr0n!!! :(!!!!!!!!!!!!
