Macross Frontier News Thread II *Read 1st post*

I don't know that Frontier seems rushed. Sure, there are some complaints about the animation, but compared to most any other tv series production it holds up quite well.

Design-wise, while I enjoy Mikimoto's works, I also enjoy seeing other character designers showing me new and interesting things as well. Looking at the static shots of the characters in Frontier, I feel they look somewhat plain and uninteresting, so I can certainly understand the complaints there. That's not a sign of a rushed production, though.

I also understand the comments about the VF-25. It's a very polished design, but it doesn't really bring anything new to the table. On the other hand, I'm enjoying the FAST packs more and more. I've always felt let down on post DYRL FAST packs, but I'm digging these (though the full armour on Ozma's 25 looks more than a bit much in fighter mode). I do hope we see a variety of Valk types in this series, beyond the 25 and 117. I'd love to see some 11s, 5000s, and hey we already know there's a VB-6.

My only major gripe with the VF-25 is that the swing-wing design doesn't really blend well with the over-all shape of the craft. It would have looked more natural looking like a fixed-wing type like the VF-11. We all know ofcourse that all the VF's are variable-wing to some extent to accommodate transformation and add-ons but this particular model just doesn't seem to go well with the concept.

In the OP where you see the VF fly-off with wings fully extended it just looked plain ugly.

Speaking of which, was there anyone else here who attended Tokyo Anime Fair for the Macross event? I remember some one else here mentioned that he might make it at the time. Bentene70 I think it was?

Yeah, that was me. I wasn't able to make it to the Anime Fair until about two hours after the Macross event, much to my disappointment.

FYI, VF-11 have a swing wing according to Kawamori design book. ;)

Mikimoto is signed on to do the merchandizing artwork, such as DVD covers, posters, etc... I'm very happy about that. Trying to revive the glory days when he was a young struggling artist taking any jobs he could is a bit much for me.

Really? Not heard of that... And the DVD and CD releases don't seem to feature covers by him. You are right about his designs being too complicated for the average animator to handle (hence the adition of Kenichi Katsura for Macross 7)...

I love his art, but am also ready for the new breed to show me their stuff as well.

Well, I have been ready for years but nobody has come close so far. Maybe Toshiro Kawamoto, but he's hardly young. I don't mind the main trio of Alto, Sheryl and the other one so much, but the rest of the characters are just so badly drawn it's amazing they expect the CG to blend in with them. In Mac Zero, too, I mean Aries for example was God-awfully designed. Those fat lips. Oh, and speaking of which, Edgar...

Yeah, that was me. I wasn't able to make it to the Anime Fair until about two hours after the Macross event, much to my disappointment.

Not too much of a fuss really, unless you already had a ticket you'd most probably find yourself in the same spot I was since all the tickets had already been sold out the day before. I had to stand outside and peek over the 2 metre high barracades during the event. Couldn't see anything except the large screen above the stage which was fortunate since I could get an advance peek at the OP and Kawamori presenting the show. Could hear everything fine though not much use due to since I only could understand every 10 or so words.

The gist of his speech to my understanding was that it was a project that was a long time in coming and he's very proud of it and proud to show a sneak peek of the OP of the show. Also introduced May'N and Megumi who plays pivotal roles in the show. I must have missed some important info as well which was why I wanted to compare notes to someone who managed to make it to this and the event at his Satelight booth.

Did you manage to catch any of the Macross events held at the Satelight booth at least? They had one every 1 1/2 to 2 hours after the concert till the close of the Fair.

Apparently there will be a special edition cover / "special package" for the DVDs that the .Anime store will carry  :

http://www.dot-anime.com/feature/035.html

By the way, in that website there's another confirmation of the 9 discs for Macross Frontier with release dates for the rest of the series: the last volume will be released one year from now... hopefully we'll have the Bandai toys BEFORE that date

I'm assuming the special package was not shown?

The case art is the same as the regular release...

Lynn Minmee...?

Well, we know that Nyan Nyan chain in MF started from the original one on the Macross (since the CM said that it was celebrating its 50th anniversary), so why WOULDN'T they capitalize on their most famous waitress?

Right, they just have the placeholders for the photos... I guess they'll be posting them when the release date gets closer.

They're just crediting Minmay with the song. That's all they're doing.

Sadly, I didn't. I was only at the fair for about two hours or so. That Sunday was an extremely busy day for me. I managed to see both the Anime Fair and the X-Japan reunion concert that day.

Ironic, since IIRC, the voice actor of Graham Aker in Gundam 00 (Yuichi Nakamura) is the same one playing Alto-Hime. B))

Now you've done it. I just had a flashback of episode 25 of Gundam 00, and the conversation between Graham and Setsuna. Hint: "LOVE"

azrael: Is'nt there anyone we can bribe or torture so that we Mwers can know the name in advance? <_< The wait is killing me.

From the blog, sounds like a name has been picked the VF-25....but they're not tellin. :) The winning entry will be in the June Newtype, on shelves May 10th.

^^ I meant THAT name.

Also, just curious have you ever watched Gundam 00, Graham?

Oh OK, I get you, the name of the VF-25.

I watched the first 5 eps of 00 fansubbed, but then gave up. There was absoutely nothing I liked about the show, well, except for my namesake character.

Graham

Try a few more, it gets better. :) though i'd take macross anyday

To me, the character animation of this gundam series is preferable to macross f, which i think is the only grip i have with it

edit. missing words/ bad grammar
