CM's Corporation Legioss/TREAD.

I like the fact the Legioss/Tread box looks similar to the Ride Armor boxes. Not my exact cup of tea but I've seen far worse and yeah, it carries forward the opening grid theme from the TV show nicely.

EDIT - thanks for the link Roger. Does it say anything about the offer being limited in anyway (besides website obviously)? I think I want to pour over my blue one for a while before I bite the bullet on the green/red ones.

You're welcome. I do know it's limited in some way but I don't know if it pertains to the edition size or ordering window. They've been offering it since January 30, so I would order now if I were you. If it turned out that you didn't like it, I doubt you would have a problem selling it.

credits from toysdaily.. seems like Hongkong has gotten their supplies faster !

Well, they are usually made there...

I only have the green one on pre-order. Really looking forward to it.

How cute, the Tread is doing a turtle impression. In all seriousness though, I know this thing is supposed to look "toy-like" but that Tread picture makes it just look cheap. Hopefully some posed pics will bring it back to life. Somebody should also let the Legioss know his nosecone is hanging a little low... Hey, maybe that's a feature! You could pull off super dynamic poses and use the nosecone as a stand like the twig that comes with the CMs Ride Armor!

I don't think they look 'cheap', although if you threw some eyeliner and bright red lipstick on them I'd agree.

Some observations:

- Is the Legioss mistransformed? It seems like there's a lot more space between the chest and the legs than I remember from previous pics.

- It's curious that the hands aren't attached. Makes me wonder if they don't fold in for transformation.

- I know the feet are typically big on Legioss' but...wow, those are some gunboats on this sucker! They look like skis!

- Looks like the shoulder sensor is able to sit flat. All the previous pics had it sitting at a slight angle.

- I totally love the finish and colors on this set. Something about it screams "Play with me!!"

I'd have to agree. In that pic at least the Tread does indeed look pretty cheap.

I imagine it'll look a bit better in more dynamic poses, but nostalgia aside NO ONE could say that looks like a better toy than a yamato 1/60...and the Treat alone is theoretically...what at least twice the cost?

Don't get me wrong, the Tread and Legioss are among my favorite mecha ever, but that is not an impressive piece.

Not so much mistransformed (although kinda), it looks like he just removed it from the package and plopped it down and took a pic. Like the tread with its head in its chest, it looks like it's tweaked in such a way as to keep it from being broken in the package during shipping. The back wings are just left folded outward.

- It's curious that the hands aren't attached. Makes me wonder if they don't fold in for transformation.

If I had to guess, i'd say this is another symptom of the above (packaging the toy in such a way as to make it most safe). I assumed the hands were attached and folded inward and that in order to make it into full soldier mode you have to flip the hands out and fold the wings in. Right now it's transformed into "Safe for shipping" mode.

Hmmm I can't wait to see more pictures. I have to say though isn't it funny how a Japanese toy comes in Hong Kong before coming out in Japan? Ah this world is always a bundle if irony.

Sadly, there are very few true Japanese toys these days. Almost everything is made in China, so that's why it appears there first.

So far it looks very plasticy, very toy-ish. Nice!

I would say it looks like a better toy than both Yamato's 1/60s and 1/48s. But I've never thought of those things as true 'toys'. Even when compared as collectors pieces I still like the look of this Legioss/Tread set better. Because it gives me a "pick me up off the shelf and transform me!" vibe wheras Yamato's valks beg to be left alone.

My problem is the disconnect between the price and the look. You're supposed to pay more for super-detailed figures that look great and realistic and not-so-much toy-like. Toys that look like toys, meaning big departures from the original show and less intricate parts, are supposed to be cheaper. The price of this CMs offering makes me expect superb detail and dead-on accuracy but the toy itself makes me expect a price that I would pay and not feel so bad if I broke it fighting imaginary Inbit around my office.

I can understand that, but I believe that price is related to production runs and the size of a company. CM's is very small and has a lot more at risk so they need to put higher price tags on their stuff, especially when they maintain a high standard of quality. Granted Toynami is also a small company but Toynami keeps their prices lower by sacrificing quality. I'm willing to pay a higher price for quality.

Somewhere, Roger just popped a boner at reading this. "Economies of scale, mofos!"

Oh, yeah, this will be the best veritech fighter toy ever made, way better than the stuff made by that Yamato company.

Peace out.

I think that's the disconnect some of us have with paying 250+ for what looks very toyish. I would argue that CMs, being a small company, should focus on making things that reflect the prices they charge, rather than making toy-ish toys and then being forced to charge expensive collector prices for them. Sure, it may appeal to you because they look playable-- and maybe 250 bucks is a drop in the bucket with those of us who have disposable incomes-- but the CMs Legioss ends up being a toy that looks durable-- but also cheap. So it invites one to play with it (which is good) but also invites them to treat it with less respect than its price deserves: "Play with me. Oh, by the way, don't break me as I cost 250 bucks. Even though you wouldn't know it." Yamatos 1/48 on the other hand are built beyond what their sculpts suggest. They are actually quite durable for collector toys with accurate, intricate sculpts and complicated transformations, and are cheaper and larger to boot. The 1/60's do sort of look and feel cheap, but at least they were only 1/4 the cost of the Legioss/Tread Combo at the time they were released.

And I'm not quite sure I can make sense of you feeling the 1/48 a worse collector piece because it actually looks like a collector piece, and not as much like a toy you can play with. It seems to me that collector pieces should look like collector pieces: accurate sculpt, detailed, intricate, complex, expensive, and impressive to look at. Toys should be playable and should tolerate slightly rough handling. But it seems that you understandibly praise the Legioss for being a toy, but then fault the 1/48 as a collector piece for *not* being toyish rather than admit its collector merits, skewing the criteria of both categories to favor toys and the Legioss. Why not just say you like toys that appear fun and playable over intricate collector pieces and be done with it, instead of redefining all standards of measure in the Legioss's favor?

I think the same people who can accept paying $250 (really more like $280 now) for the Legioss/TLEAD are the same people who wouldn't bat an eyelash at spending around $200 apiece for 40 cm hollow vinyl monsters like these:

g_hedora.jpg

(Yes, that's supposed to be Godzilla on the left.)

There are people who can accept a robot toy looking like a toy, and people who can't. And that's okay. Diff'rent strokes to the world.

Someone hurry up and buy one of these and put the Aoshima Legioss in front of it. That would make a sweet pic.

I hope over-drive-inc ships quickly. I'm gonna go crazy with pics in my review and get it up as quickly as possible.

Ugh, I paid the $250+ and I can guarantee I would never spend any money on a vinyl monster toy. I'm hoping that's a very vintage collectible if people are paying that much. There's always a premium to pay on vintage stuff.

Wow, you took my opinion far more seriously than it was meant to be taken. I wasn't making some manifesto, just sharing my opinion of what I like. I like toys. Don't let it bother you so much.

Ok.....I bought it last night. Spent hours fiddling around with it. I won't have time to put up a full review and pics until later tonight as i'm at work but I can answer any questions in the meantime.

Bring it on, mofos

Does it feel solid or hollow?

Are the joints tight?

Does it hold together (combined) well?

Are you able to stick your tongue back in your mouth yet?

Have you stooped drooling?

As I said, I can't put up any pics until later tonight but it's actually a little taller than the Aoshima/Toynami but a LOT skinnier.

I MUCH prefer the proportions on this version of the Legioss.

- Could you tell us where the ratchet joints are located on both the tread and legioss?

- Do all the parts line up well?

-Is there a huge gap under the legioss in fighter mode?

- How's the connection?

- Do the hands fold in via trap door?

-Does it feel fragile at all

-Are there ratchets all over the place?

-Is it a lot more durable than Toynami's MPC?

-Did your head explode by the sheer amount of awesomeness after the first transformations?

-Can the Tread retract its landing gear?

-Is the connection with Legioss and Tread stable enough for me to swoosh it around?

-Are there any questionable construction elements?

It feels a little bit solid and a little bit hollow. The Tread especially is a tiny bit hollow-feeling but at the same time, quite solid.

The joints are very tight and everything holds poses well. Legs on the Tread are a little loose in the hips but that's it.

It holds together ok, just ok. Since the Tread landing gear/connector is made of diecast metal and is fairly tight at the attachment points. (actually, aside from the landing gear and a couple of small joints, ther is virtually no diecast in this set.

Do the hands on the Legioss and Tlead fold in for transformation or do they have to be removed?

hows the connection to legioss to tread?

are the transformations easy to do?

are they solid toys or does it feel like it could break easily?

how are the hands?

was it WORTH it? =[ (i really want a legioss + tread combination)

Connection to the Tread is a little loose and doesn't balance on the stand that well. You have it at an angle of 45degrees to balance and not fall over.

The transformations are easy and very similar to the Toynami/Aoshima.

The Tread is a solid piece. The Legioss is a little loose and the front section does't connect all that securely.

The hands are very nice and solid pieces. Very MG hands. They fold up in to the arms on both toys.

Does everything 'lock down' and fit together nicely in each mode so that you know the transformation is 'done'?

Things don't all lock down securely as I mentioned above. The Legioss is a very loose and actually, kind of flimsy toy in fighter mode. The front section rests more than locks into place. It easily moves or becomes diconnected. The Tread, however, very solid once transformed.

Ratchet joints in the hip of both.

No gap.

The connection is ok but it rests more than locks into the combination.

Hands fold via "trap-doors"

Somne parts on the Legioss line up but don't secure as I mentioned above. The Toynami is a far more solid toy. And again, almost zero diecast

My review is coming later today but i'm very happy with this toy. However, I can see many people hating this thing. The Legioss is veeeery floppy in the hands and the front section not locking (maybe I have a lemon) is a HUGE turn off for me. The tread is a great toy however. Solid, dynamic for such a lumbering beast and full of little features.

BTW, little additions, the five Stick mini-figures, the sword, the plastic plugs to disguise ALL the screw holes are great little additions.

Is it worth it? For me, yes. But it's not perfect and the Legioss is more flimsy than the Toynami which FEELS more expensive than this. I just wish there was more diecast than the landing gear and a couple of tiny joints alone.

Pictures coming soon with a full review.
