Macross Mecha Manual

This site is great. Tons of info with ample amounts of illustrations. Kudos! And thank you for not watermarking images left and right and coding everything to disable image downloads!

Who was the guy with the always in progress technical site? Use to watermark his scans...darn memory....

Macross Mecha Information/Nanashi's was a fine website for the content it had and would still be an asset to Macross fandom. We need more Macross websites, not less. But that particular site appeared more of a personal project than anything else. I can certainly sympathize with website owners who have seen their hard work pilfered by thieves. I've made it a point not to take from any other sites (though, that's not difficult, given the high requirements for M3 pictures). And who knows, perhaps we may see more of that site in the future.

Personally, I want the Macross Mecha Manual to be available to fans, mostly as a reference. Something they can proudly point to when they say to their fellow anime fans "want to see a really kick ass looking mecha?" The M3 has a roughly six-month goal to catalogue the five series I stated and will meet that goal with the next update. Though I've plans to continue the site, the existing M3 material will remain online indefinitely.

your website simply kicks @ss...I like the big clean illustrations you have on it... and true; it takes a while to put it all together...looking forward to your next update...

Hehehe, a little impatient are we? :) Not to worry, I consider eagerness for more a very good sign.

The update is almost ready. I've got four profiles left to write and two sets of colored pictures to complete. Should be ready to party in about a week or two.

Quick note, should the Thunderbolt Entry in M7 section be the C version? With the Wings Emblem on the Heatshield erased?

Sorata, yes, proceed with life normally. Good things sometimes take time :)

Lonewolf you won't be disappointed. You're gonna see stuff no one ever expected to see profiled :)

kensei Oh yes, this has been corrected for the next update. At the time I had no access to VF-11C line art so I used the VF-11B. I've since obtained more line art and the "VF-11C Macross 7 Fleet" profile has been completely revised with all new colored line art. New FAST Packs, gun pod and even missiles :)

MAJOR UPDATE

Once again, the Macross Mecha Manual is a buzz with new content. This update features (40) new profiles and marks the final update that will complete the original mandate of the Macross Mecha Manual; the profiling of mecha from Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross: Do You Remember Love?, Macross Flashback 2012, Macross Plus and Macross Zero. While the Macross Zero section stands as incomplete it represents the limit of the high-resolution Macross Zero line art to which I have access. Until a proper book of Macross Zero line art is released, that section will likely remain as is.

Having stated that, be assured the Macross Mecha Manual is continuing. Truth be told, I've become somewhat addicted to the work and while I may have exhausted my Macross Zero line art, I've yet to exhaust the totality of the other series line art. I've plans to add more mecha, improve some older profiles, add more line art and also include some new features (specifically a schematic section to showcase the many high-resolution pictures of the Valkyries in fighter mode).

I'd also like to take this opportunity to formally request submissions of Macross Zero and Macross Flashback 2012 black and white line art. If you have access to a scanner that can do at least 600 DPI, I'll accept high-resolution line art in whatever format you can offer, even jpeg if need be. Specifically, I'm hoping to obtain large enough pictures of the individual Macross Zero line art from old japanese magazines (probably requires 1,200 DPI for those small pictures) and I'm also interested in ANY line art from the Macross Flashback 2012 fan books (specifically high-resolution scans of the Megaroad and any character/equipment scans). If you have the means and would love to see some more Macross on the Macross Mecha Manual, please contact me.

In this update, I'm happy to announce the opening of the Updates section and the Macropedia section. For quick reference, here is a list of all the new Macross mecha added in this update:

Damn! That's one hell of an update. Great work mr. March!

BTW. I never knew about the prototype 1 versions of the 19 and 21. That white and blue 19 looks hot. If Yamato made one of those, I'd jump on it.

The 21 prototype 1, on the other hand, is so ugly I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

*EDIT* spelling

Wasn't the Super Dimension Energy Cannon called the "Buster Cannon"?

Or was that just a pre-production term for the main gun on the Macross?

Sorry Zinjo, I was a little busy and missed your question.

I beleive "Buster Cannon" is an unofficial designation, though of course I can't be absolutely certain. The Macross Compendium continues to label the weapon either Super Dimension Energy Cannon or Heavy Converging Energy Beam Cannon, the latter typically used for Zentradi craft. And of course, a similar weapon was called "Macross Cannon" in Macross 7.

holy cr@p! nice update!

Mr March EDIT

I liked yf-21 #1, I love the traditional bubble canopy.

All the YF-21 you could want. Well, maybe missing a few more pictures, but they'll eventaully show up! :) I really enjoyed making the YF-21 prototype #1. I was just dying to see what it looked like with a traditional cockpit. So purty :)

You sir are my hero. Finally a Macross site that does the series justice.

But what about MacrossWorld? Just kidding, I know what you meant :) I too have longed for a site that does right by the mecha of Macross. It's long overdue and a lot of work, but oh so worth it.

I saved the best for...well, sort of last, I guess, since I'm going to make more :)

I'm not crazy about either Protoype color schemes to be honest. But I did enjoying drawing a conventional cockpit for the YF-21. When I first saw the picture from TIAS Mac+, I knew I had to include this variant in the M3. It's sexah! :)

Lonewolf, Ignacio Ocamica, and Prime

Ah, my biggest fans. You're always around for the next update :) I'm glad you guys like it. It's made for you.

I'm stunned at how fast you were able to get this thing off the ground; last time i checked you only had maybe a handful of the mechs listed for SDFM now you have nearly everything meticulously filled out and structured. I truly applaud your efforts, this is becoming quite a handy reference tool, and having pictures makes it worth a quick browse through even if you're looking for nothing in particular.

This link under the YF-21 "Omega One" is not working for me:

YF-21 schematic front/rear (with wing cant shown)

Are the schemes of the YF-19/YF-21 prototype 1 official?

Thanks in advance!!!

For some reason the original picture uploaded, but contained "0 bytes." I've reloaded it. IMPORTANT NOTE: select the link to that picture normally. The error screen may show again. Just select RELOAD on your browser and the picture will display!

The pictures for the YF-19/YF-21 Prototype No.1 are official...sort of :) Official literature does confirm they exist and the YF-21 No. 1 does use a conventional control cockpit. The color schemes are taken from the book TIAS Macross Plus, which has the two prototypes and specifically identifies them as YF-19 No.1 and YF-21 No.1. HOWEVER, only a side schematic of the fighter mode is shown. Hence, the three modes I've shown cannot possibly be 100% accurate (and are very likely deficient in some small detail). The YF-21 No.1 in particular is difficult to judge, since the design of the heat shield in battroid mode is never shown (but the cockpit window is and so it's accurate).

Incidentally, this is the same situation for the VF-17T Nightmare Trainer, having been designed from a simple colored side schematic of the fighter mode in TIAS Macross Plus. The VF-17T is a canon craft and we do know it lacks armament based on the picture (no guns nor missiles ports). The head unit however, is pure speculation. It's just a cannon-less VF-17D.

Nonetheless, they are all canon-enough to include on the M3. I'm sure everyone will agree they are a pleasant surprise :)

This is EXACTLY what I wanted the M3 to be. You have no idea how happy it makes me to read your post. The M3 is part reference, part entertainment and as complete as I can make it. And it's not over yet! The site has been a lot of work, but it's really just getting over that hurdle of 25 years of content. Now that most of that is done, it's much more manageable. I also had a roughly 6 month project duration for the original mandate. I went over that a bit, but the job's done. Now I can concentrate on smaller updates, maybe about a dozen profiles each and continued revision of existing content. I'm so glad you appreciate the site in precisely the way I intended. Thanks emajnthis

Macross Flashback 2012 artbooks!?!?!

I thought that 2012 was only an unoffical fan made paste together music video in which it took nearly all of it's footage from the movies!

As eugimon has pointed out, Macross Flashback 2012 is very much a real, official music video.
