GAKKEN TREAD
In
the early 80's Gakken decided to enter collectors toy market. One of the items
they decided to create was a Tread Toy to match up with it's small line of Legioss
fighters. Unfortunately the company closed down their toy division and the Tread
line was never released(They were a childrens book publisher before, and still
are). A few Treads did get produced(test-shots) though before the doors closed,
and here is one!
The Treads were briefly made in two locations-Japan and Singapore. The one pictured
below was made in Japan. It is one of the very few produced that ever had decals,
and was scheduled to be in a photo shoot for the Gakken marketing team. Color
variations confirmed so far are Blue and Red. I'm sure a Green variation was
produced but one has not been located by us yet. Matt Alt said during his Tread
investigation days that estimates were around a dozen or so of these exist in
the world. For information on the Lansay
Singapore version please click here.
If you are interested we do know where another Blue one exists, although it has no decals. It is a version. It is very, very expensive(many thousands of dollars) but if you are seriously interested let us know.
My warmest thanks to Carl Hoff for offering up these pics for display on MW, and to Matt Alt(from ToyboxDx) for translating the text for transformation. I've always had a warm spot in my heart for Mospeada and am proud to share these pics with fans everywhere. If you have any questions for Carl please send him an email at cnh@ti.com or write him on the Macross World Discussion board-he checks it out frequently.
