CAD LINEART

FIGHTER MODE COMPARISON

INTRODUCTION:

As there has been some criticism recently on the Macrossworld forums thread about the upcoming Yamato 1/60 scale YF-19 toy lacking sleekness, compared with various published lineart, I thought I'd throw together this comparison of YF-19 lineart from various sources.

While it's true that the Yamato CAD lineart shows a slightly shorter nose and also a thicker and more curved dorsal section (belly), just ahead of the engine intakes, this has to be taken in context. In order to design a transforming YF-19, which looks good in all three modes, yet avoids the proportional errors of previous transforming YF-19 toys and models (Bandai, SHE, Yamato, LS etc), certain compromises in length and thickness of various parts have to be made.

Compounding this, is the fact that the YF-19 as designed and drawn by Kawamori-san utilises a significant amount of "anime magic" (parts magically changing size and shape), during it's transformation. This makes it impossible to design a perfect transformation YF-19 toy which is completely accurate to the lineart in all three modes, unless you want to use either removable or swapable parts. In which case, the toy would not be perfect transformation any more.

If you check Kawamori's lineart in the last two pics below, you can see that he rarely draws the YF-19 exactly the same way twice and in some pics, the belly appears far more curved than in the side-on lineart.

Anyway, CAD drawings of toys never tell the full story and the final product invariably looks better.
