The kits were originally based on the Imai (and later Bandai) 1/72 Super Valkyrie model. Hideo Nagata took these basic kits to an entirely new level. Each is cast out of resin and features new cockpit, front nose cone, legs and much more. You can see the Imai influence but these can definitely be called his now. His kits were featured in the January 1998 Model Graphix issue celebrating Macross' 15th Anniversary. I love the look of these kits. Personally I feel the VE-1 and VT-1 look better than the Yellow Submarine/Club-M versions, as they look more 'aircraft-like' and less 'organic'. Being an Imai fan for over 15 years now has no influence on my feelings..I swear! ; )
